The professor of Contemporary History at the University of Murcia Pedro M.ª Egea Bruno has been distinguished with the Prize for Historical Memory of the Region of Murcia, which has been awarded every year for three editions by the Federation of Associations of Historical Memory of the Region of Murcia (FAMH-RM). The award aims to recognize the extensive teaching and research career, in addition to his advocacy and dissemination of the Historical Memory of the Region. Egea Bruno tries to focus all his research work from the point of view of total history, focusing on aspects such as demography, economy, society, culture or politics.

He is the author of numerous publications and articles on topics such as hunger, rationing and the black market in the Franco regime, the press, the Republican fleet or the Cartagena Naval Base, among others. The result of his research has been the recovery of the work as rectors of the University of Murcia of Professors Laureano Sánchez Gallego and Manuel Pérez Xambó, who developed their activity during the Civil War, of which a special issue of the magazine was published CENTUM university in April of last year, and whose portraits will be able to be seen shortly in the Gallery of Rectors of the UMU. Regarding the subject of Historical Memory in the Region, the professor has stated that "The creation of the Historical Memory Associations, integrated into the Federation of Historical Memory Associations of the Region of Murcia, has meant a considerable advance, starting with the tributes to the victims and the dignity of the then-known mass graves of Murcia and Cartagena, "and he added that, in his opinion," there remains a stretch with the disappearance of symbols, streets and squares with names that violate the Historical Memory.

The defense of the prisons of Murcia and Cartagena against their commercialization and loss of meaning is a priority.

At present, a project for the exhumation of the common graves of the Region is being prepared.
