The City Council begins in Barriomar the Plan to improve the accessibility of the South Connection neighborhoods (20/11/2020)

| The Governing Board has approved the tender for a contract of 228,113.50 euros for the expansion and improvement of the sidewalks that will connect Barriomar with the Carmen neighborhood | The Councilor for Neighborhoods and Pedanías, Marco Antonio Fernández and the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, visited Barriomar this morning where the Plan to improve accessibility in the South Connection neighborhoods begins.

This is a project to improve sidewalks and pedestrian connections, within the Extraordinary Investment and District Plan.Today, the Governing Board has approved the specifications and administrative clauses for hiring, for an amount of 228,113.50 euros and a period of 3 months."With this action we are not only building sidewalks, South Connection is a project that unites spaces, connects people and that will facilitate the development of the neighborhoods themselves, making them more open, promoting social integration and favoring economic activity", Marco Antonio highlighted FernandezA project that arises from citizen participationDuring this visit, a route was carried out with various groups and neighborhood associations such as the La Inmaculada- La Purísima association, Barriomar - La Purísima neighborhood association, La Purísima Brotherhood, CEIP Barriomar 74, Barriomar senior center, women's center from Barriomar, La Inmaculada parish, La Purísima cycling club and Peña Huertana El Chisquero, in which project technicians have explained to the neighbors the actions that are going to be carried out."We continue with our commitment to urban renewal with this type of action.

We attend to the demands of our neighbors and are committed to making the streets and sidewalks more accessible and passable, which in this case connects Barriomar with the Carmen neighborhood.

The safety of our Neighbors come first ", reported Rebeca Pérez. The objective of this action is to improve pedestrian spaces and the connection between neighborhoods, a demand from residents that has been raised in the meetings and agoras of the South Connection process of participation, which began to be developed in 2019.These improvements that are going to be undertaken in Barriomar and the work carried out in the South Connection project are part of the Government Team's philosophy of betting on the territorial structuring of the municipality.Three projects that will transform the environmentThe first action is going to take place on Avenida Ciudad de Almería, a main road that connects Murcia with Alcantarilla and is also the connection between Barriomar and the Carmen neighborhood.

The initial sidewalk will be recovered and paved with cobblestone, making various accessible ramps and pedestrian crossings with tactile tile paving. This action will also allow the movement of the containers located under the A-30 highway bridge.

Currently these containers are on the sidewalk that is going to be fixed, making accessibility difficult, so this sidewalk will be clear after the intervention.Similarly, this action is carried out on the Camino del Hondo, between Ciudad de Almería and Calle la Purísima, with the exception that the sidewalks are very narrow in this section.

From its intersection to Calle La Purísima, the street will be paved with printed agglomerate, turning this street into a pedestrian zone, compatible with road traffic.Bollards will be installed to separate the vehicular traffic area from that of pedestrians, which will also prevent inappropriate parking. In addition, on the right side of the street, there is an area that overlooks a non-fenced lot and that needs a lateral containment system to make this section safer, so a simple fence will be built anchored to the sidewalk. The third performance will take place in the Torre de los Ibáñez lane, where the paving of the sidewalk that is on top of a ditch called "brazal del Jueves y Pozo de La Herrera" will be changed.Regarding the horizontal and vertical signage, in the last two streets, the vertical signage will be preserved and it is considered advisable to limit the speed to 40 km / h, in these streets, which will be done through the corresponding signs. As for the horizontal signaling, the repainting of all the existing ones is planned and the two continuous white lines delimiting the road will be painted, currently non-existent.

Finally, the existing pedestrian crossings will also be repainted.Barriomar, territory of South ConnectionThe South Connection project will mean the return to Murcians of an urban area of ??more than 200,000 m2, where green spaces and pedestrian areas will be the main protagonists. In the design of the actions to be developed, the more than 70,000 residents who live in the 9 districts and neighborhoods where these actions will take place will have a voice, such as: Los Dolores, El Infante, the Carmen neighborhood, Santiago el Mayor, the Progreso neighborhood, San Pío X, Nonduermas, Patiño and Barriomar.Currently, the participatory process of the project is taking place.

Municipal technicians are holding working meetings with more than 150 representative groups from the southern part of the municipality with the aim of gathering ideas and proposals that will later be evaluated by the competent technicians. At the same time, the placement of more than 300 ballot boxes by businesses and establishments in the southern districts and neighborhoods is allowing weekly contributions to be collected directly from citizens by filling in forms.
