IU-Greens warns of the impact of the construction of a photovoltaic macro-plant on the population of eagle owls (18/11/2020)

The person in charge of the Environment of the training, Ginés Mirón, expresses his concern at the news of the construction of a photovoltaic framework plant in the southern part of the municipality by the company X-Elio, specifically the new infrastructure would be located north of the population of Gea and Truyol in an area of ??about 300 hectares also close to the town of Sucina.IU-Verdes Murcia has warned of the negative effects of the construction of a photovoltaic macro plant in the proposed area since, according to the formation of the left, in addition to occupying several hectares within the protected area called ZEPA Monte EL Valle, it would also imply the occupation of areas that are used as a habitual roaming area for birds such as the eagle owl. Thus, Mirón recalled "as has already been warned by Ecologists in Action, the electricity evacuation line would cross the ZEPA Monte El Valle directly to the substation that the company plans to build at the foot of the Sierra Escalona, ??in the province of Alicante, which in our opinion and that of the conservation associations would mean a serious environmental damage since, as is more than known, power lines are precisely one of the most responsible for the mortality of many birds by collision.

"From IU Verdes they also remember the proposal presented a few years ago by the Murcia City Council itself, which sought to declare that area as a Biosphere reserve, called 'El País del Búho', "which in an incomprehensible way has given way to that now we find ourselves with a project that aims precisely to eliminate hunting areas for these birds of prey ".Political training has always supported the commitment to solar energy as an alternative to the use of fossil fuels, "but we understand that there are other more suitable places within the municipality of Murcia for its installation.

One of these areas could be the closest to the Southeast logistics park, near Corvera airport, where other similar plants have already been located, since in addition to having existing power lines, they have a lower impact on the environmental complex that makes up the El Valle Carrascoy regional park and the ZEPA Mount the Valley "says Mirón.The person in charge of the Environment requests the City Council of Murcia and the Community of Murcia to make the pertinent allegations before MITECO for this project "with the aim of safeguarding the environmental wealth of this area" and to establish a serious and sustainable planning in to the construction of this type of facilities so that, as with other productive activities, they have adequate areas for their location, minimizing impacts and avoiding the need to build large power lines that end up affecting not only natural spaces, but also to many neighbors, mainly from rural areas who see the landscape transformed without obtaining any benefit from this type of macroplant.
