Transparency, accessibility and scientific rigor will be the axes of the participatory process of South Connection (10/11/2020)

| Councilors Mercedes Bernabé and Antonio Navarro have presented, together with the presidents of the municipal boards of the southern neighborhoods and districts, the first phase of this consultation, which will run until December 16 | The councilors of Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, and Sustainable Development and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, presented this morning the actions of the first phase of the South Connection process of participation, together with the presidents of the municipal boards of the districts and neighborhoods involved.In this way, citizens will be the protagonists of completely transforming their own environment through a strategy that will give voice to the more than 70,000 residents of the neighborhoods and districts of the South and that will revolve around the following axes: accessibility, transparency, and scientific rigor."Accessibility because we have established numerous tools that encourage the participation of people, such as online and face-to-face actions, actions through social networks and the website, telephone contacts and activities for children.

Transparency because everything will be reported in detail the participatory process, accounting for both the different participation actions and the presentation of results.

In this sense, we will organize and systematize all requests and suggestions received in order to respond and render accounts in a transparent way.

Finally, this The process is based on a scientific basis, since it is a procedure that has the endorsement of experts from the research group of Territorial Innovation and Urban Development of the University of Murcia,who have extensive experience in the design and implementation of participatory processes ", explained Mercedes Bernabé.Another relevant aspect will be the role played by the presidents of the municipal boards, which are the bodies with the greatest neighborhood representation and those that maintain a closer relationship both with the associations and with the neighbors in their environment."The involvement of citizens will be crucial in the development of this project that will definitely transform the life of the southern neighborhoods of Murcia.

More than an urban project we can say that South Connection is a human project, which will unite neighborhoods and families , eliminate barriers and bring public services closer to residents of the area ", highlighted the mayor, responsible for the participatory process of South Connection.Actions of the participatory processThe first phase of the participatory process of South Connection will run until December 16 and will lay its foundations on the principles of urban recovery and mobility, health and sustainability, environment, green spaces and connections, social structure, identity and culture, as well as trade and economic activity. The residents of El Carmen, San Pío X, Barriomar, Santiago el Mayor, El Progreso, Infante Juan Manuel, Patiño, Nonduermas and Los Dolores will be in charge of shaping this plan that will mark a milestone in the urban design of Murcia.In this way, the actions planned for the coming months are as follows:-From November 1 to 30.

In addition to the meetings of the Panel of Experts and Social, held a few weeks ago, there are individual meetings with representatives of the more than 150 groups that carry out their activity in the neighborhoods of the southern area.-From November 16 to 30.

Surveys will be conducted in businesses through ballot boxes that will be installed in the establishments, where residents can deposit their ideas and contributions.-From November 11 to December 16.

Participation will be extended to surrounding schools, where school activities will be organized such as the drawing and painting contest called 'Imagine your neighborhood'.

Likewise, other actions aimed at young people will be developed to promote their involvement in the implementation of actions that contribute to the improvement of coexistence in the neighborhoods.-From November 16 to December 16.

Meetings with residents of the areas involved in South Connection will be held.

Specifically, the dates will be as follows: from November 16 to 20 in Santiago el Mayor and San Pío X; from November 23 to 27 in El Progreso, Patiño and Ronda Sur; from November 30 to December 4 in Barriomar and Nonduermas; from December 7 to 11 at the Infante and Los Dolores; and from December 14 to 16 in El Carmen.These meetings will be limited to a maximum of three people and will take place in the mayors of each neighborhood or hamlet.

Those interested should request a prior appointment that will be provided through their municipal boards.-From November 25 to December 9.

Celebration of virtual agoras in different locations: November 25 in San Pío, Barriomar and Nonduermas; December 2 in Los Dolores, Patiño and El Progreso; and on December 9 in Santiago el Mayor, El Carmen and el Infante.These meetings will be held at 7:00 p.m., will be open to all residents and will be attended by municipal technicians.

In this space, residents will be able to know what the initiative consists of, the actions and phases of the participatory process, the development of projects on the released land (sketches, general criteria, etc.), the actions to be carried out, as well as access to suggestions and contributions section.Pedestrian routes, open spaces and green areasThe creation of pedestrian and cyclable routes, the construction of living spaces, the increase in free spaces and the general use of trees and vegetation will focus the urbanization works that will be carried out in the spaces freed after the integration of the railway network in the city of Murcia.For his part, Antonio Navarro will be responsible for urban planning work and has stressed that "we are going to undertake the greatest social, urban and economic transformation that our municipality has experienced by moving the nerve center of the city to the south".For this, it is worth highlighting the involvement in this project of a multidisciplinary team made up of both municipal technicians and external professionals.
