Urban Development prunes the more than 35,000 palm trees and mulberry trees in the Murcian districts (03/11/2020)

| These days, the pruning work is being carried out in the Llano de Brujas district, which has more than 450 specimens, and will continue throughout the municipality until December | The Murcia City Council, through the Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration led by José Guillén, is carrying out the pruning of more than 15,000 palm trees and 20,000 mulberry trees in the districts and neighborhoods of the municipality.This morning, the Deputy Mayor visited Llano de Brujas where these tasks are being carried out in the more than 450 specimens of mulberry and palm trees located in the district."The objective of this pruning is, in addition to revitalizing the tree and helping it in its development, guaranteeing the safety of citizens and making these specimens so characteristic of our city look in perfect condition and provide shade in the gardens and green areas of the municipality , places where neighbors can rest, meet, disconnect and enjoy our surroundings "has highlighted José Guillén.The first of the actions to be carried out is the plywood alignment of specimens on walks, after which training and maintenance pruning will be carried out on the remaining specimens located inside the different parks of the municipality.This task is necessary to avoid the fall of fruits as well as to reduce the fall of leaves in autumn that cause discomfort to pedestrians.Green cycleThe remains of branches are crushed to be reused as compost in the parks and gardens of the municipality, betting on a sustainable green cycle.The Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration works to take care of the environment, improve the air we breathe and ensure that all green areas are in perfect condition, taking advantage of all resources, saving costs and contributing to the improvement of our planet. Palm tree pruningThe palm trees, of the Phoenix canariensis and Phoenix dactylifera species, as well as Washingtonia, are being pruned by professionals who have all the necessary safety measures for the development of these tasks and complying with the strictest regulations on occupational risk prevention.Although the work will be carried out throughout the municipality of Murcia, some of the districts where there is a greater concentration of palm trees are the Palmeral de Santiago and Zaraiche, Espinardo, the neighborhood of La Paz, Lobosillo, among many others."During these months, the pruning of one of the most remarkable elements of the green areas, the palm trees, is being carried out.

They are unique trees in the history of Murcia and the objective of this action is to guarantee the correct development of the palm trees and the safety of the residents of the municipality, which is our priority ", highlighted José Guillén.For these works, there are 6 teams that arrive in an efficient and coordinated way to all areas.

They will be carrying out these tasks until the beginning of December.The palm trees are, for the most part, large, reaching between 15 and 20 meters in height, for which numerous human and material resources are being used, such as fifteen technical specialists in palm pruning, with octopus trucks, as well as lifting baskets.

Specifically, the ascent to the palm trees will be carried out using the safety rope and harness system.
