Murcia participates in the First Assembly of the network of Local Entities for the 2030 Agenda (25/10/2020)

| Organizations from all over Spain meet to work together in the development and achievement of the SDGs at the local level | The Murcia City Council, through the councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, and the municipal technicians of European Programs, has participated this week in the First Assembly of the network of Local Entities for the Agenda 2030 of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), made up of 167 municipalities, provinces and islands.Local entities from all over Spain met to work together in the development and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the local level.

“For the first time, a strategy of these dimensions is assumed from a holistic perspective –social, cultural, economic and environmental-.

For this, the union between administrations and the development of spaces for dialogue that promote mutual enrichment are more than necessary ”, Mercedes Bernabé stressed. Thus, the creation of a web page that allows its own space for the exchange of information between the agents involved, the presentation of a guide for the localization and local implementation of the SDGs, collaboration in the public and private sectors, as well as the organization of a training day focused on dealing with the effects of the pandemic were some of the highlights of the meeting. The councilor explains that "the 2030 Agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), approved by the United Nations General Assembly on September 25, 2015, has become humanity's most ambitious international agenda."The municipality of Murcia, together with the municipalities of A Coruña, Castellón and Alfaro, has been selected by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda to develop the pilot experience in the Action Plan of the Spanish Urban Agenda in order to create a document that represents the roadmap for the transformation of urban spaces towards a more sustainable model, clearly in line with the SDGs promoted by the United Nations. Specifically, Mercedes Bernabé has indicated that “we are currently in the preliminary phase of drafting the strategy, which will serve as a model for other entities to implement their respective action plans.

This document will make it possible to articulate the policies, programs and projects that guide the future of our territory ”.On the other hand, Murcia is also working on the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, a project that reflects the commitment of the council to transform and build a city of the future, which observes economic and technological development with the utmost respect for nature.

and the protection of the most vulnerable groups.
