The City Council and IE collaborate in the design of a Govtech ecosystem in Murcia (24/10/2020)

Idoia Ortiz de Artiñano Goñi, one of the 100 most influential people in the world in digital government, director and founder of the PublicTech Lab of the prestigious business school Instituto de Empresa, has held a training session at the Murcia City CouncilThe Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration led by José Guillén, has organized a training session at the Murcia City Council on the existing opportunities in the generation of govtech ecosystems, that is, in the digital transformation of public administrations.This conference, given by Idoia Ortiz de Artiñano Goñi, one of the 100 most influential people in the world in digital government, director and founder of the PublicTech Lab of the Instituto de Empresa, was held in the Moneo building.

The more than 80 heads of service of the Murcia City Council have participated electronically or in person, it has also been open to all those interested in digital governments.The work carried out in the PubliTech Lab is currently focused on using innovation programs to meet the needs of public administrations.

Among the proposals being developed is to work with local technology start-ups and SMEs."The digital transformation of public administrations is fundamental for the modernization of the administration towards a new model of intelligent city council, more accessible, and that facilitates the life of Murcians.

The training of municipal managers is fundamental to know trends and promote innovative solutions of high social value, improving services, participation and transparency in public administrations ", José Guillén highlighted.The Murcia City Council, in its firm commitment to modernizing the administration, and with the help of the Murcia Smart City Project, is also open to a demand for public innovation through startups and improvement of tools that offer new technological needs and facilitate the life of Murcia.Govtech ecosystems in citiesGovTech is an ecosystem where startups and digital SMEs use data and new technologies to generate solutions to the great challenges of public administrations.Govtech ecosystems are a great opportunity for the economic development of the city and its territory.More and more startups, scale-ups and technology SMEs are developing solutions to the needs of the public in different areas: provision of services, operations and administration, digital infrastructure, participation and transparency.The govtech space presents a double opportunity: on the one hand, it brings innovation to public entities to improve service to people.

On the other, it represents a great market of opportunities for startups, scale-ups and digital SMEs.Murcia Smart CityTechnology has been installed in a dizzying way in all areas of municipal management.

The City Council continues to take strategic steps to transform the city into a more efficient, accessible, sustainable and, above all, equitable and egalitarian space.The technical and legal support, to the municipal managers and technicians, for a better understanding of the digital transformation process that is taking place, their correct training and the provision of new technological tools to the City Council workers, are part of the actions of the Murcia Smart City municipal strategy.Thanks to this project, Murcia is immersed in the development of a smart, modern and sustainable city model, based on participation, attention to citizens, urban quality and new technologies at the service of the neighbors.The greatest example of this is the new Electronic Headquarters of the Murcia City Council (sede.murcia.es), a portal from where citizens, with a digital certificate or electronic ID, can access municipal management from any device, anywhere in the world , and at all times, opening the town hall 24 hours, 365 days; to be able to carry out all the procedures related to the different municipal services, as well as the presentation of any of your application before the city council.Among the most widely used available services are those related to social services, health, urban planning, housing, environment, traffic, activities on public roads, parks and gardens, and access to selective employment and training processes, among others.
