| Both institutions have also signed another agreement to set up the Permanent Headquarters of the UMU in the municipality | The University of Murcia and the Calasparra City Council have signed a collaboration agreement this Wednesday that will allow the construction of an experimental archeology workshop in the Abrigos del Pozo area, classified as a Site of Cultural Interest.
The signing ceremony was attended by the rector of the UMU, José Luján, and the mayor of Calasparra, Teresa García. The project will consist of the construction of a town with cabins like those that existed during the Neolithic in the area.
Students of the degree in History and Education degrees from the University of Murcia, as well as students from secondary schools in the municipality, will participate in this task.
The project implies that the construction will be done with the materials found in the environment and using prehistoric techniques. The process of building the cabins will be the essential part of the experimental archeology project, since the analysis of the construction times, the materials used and other variables will allow to draw conclusions about how the formation of settlements was in the Neolithic Age.
This central part will be in charge of teachers from the Department of Prehistory, Archeology, Ancient History, Medieval History, Historiographic Sciences and Techniques of the Faculty of Letters.
On the other hand, the Faculty of Education will launch a parallel project for research on the didactics of History. "It is a complete project in which we fulfill a training and research function, at the same time that we build an infrastructure that gives value to the heritage wealth of the area and that generates sustainable tourism", says Professor Joaquín Lomba, promoter of the project by the University of Murcia. Calasparra, Permanent Headquarters of University Extension At the same event, the collaboration agreement was signed for the creation of the Permanent Headquarters of University Extension of the University of Murcia in the Municipality.
This headquarters will allow the realization of training, social and cultural activities in the town.
