| In memory of the one who was a professor at the UMU for more than forty years | "I think I am not wrong when I say that he always wanted to be a teacher, in the broadest sense of the word." This statement made at the end of the book "Pedro Molina Buendía: a life at the service of the University" by Alberto Tárraga, sums up as a corollary the life of who was a professor at the University of Murcia for more than 40 years. The book will be presented next Tuesday the 20th at 12:30 pm in the Hermanegildo Lumeras de Castro auditorium, Faculty of Chemistry, Espinardo Campus, and is edited by the UMU Publications Service.

Professors Alberto Tárraga Tomás and Antonio Arques Adame are its author and coordinator respectively. The event will be chaired by the Rector José Luján, and will be attended by Pedro Lozano, dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, Alberto Tárraga, author of the book and professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Murcia, and Inmaculada Cartagena Travesedo, director of the Department of Organic Chemistry of the UMU. Twice Vice Chancellor The publication contains contributions from friends, colleagues and colleagues from the university management that he developed at various times, who shared with him part of his long university journey at UMU, his workplace for more than four decades.

The volume glosses and recalls Pedro Molina Buendía's life, academic, teacher, researcher and manager journey, summarizing in 120 pages a life dedicated to the University of Murcia. Vice-rector in the early 80s and late 90s, within the teams of José Antonio Lozano and Juan Monreal respectively, is remembered by the former as "quiet, effective, firm in his convictions and, above all, loyal, very loyal.

he as a collaborator was like having a permanent trust insurance ", comments the former rector, who assures that his work as vice-rector of Campus in the early 80s was" an essential piece in the modernization of the University of Murcia ". In similar terms, the former rector Juan Monreal states that, as vice-rector for Research, during his period (1994-98), Pedro Molina's work "contributed to the University of Murcia being endowed, on the one hand, with more research infrastructures and, on the other hand, it favored an increase in research activity, making it more competitive, both nationally and internationally ". The Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry Pedro Lozano, for his part, assures in another writing included in the publication that "Throughout more than forty years dedicated to Organic Chemistry, Professor Molina consolidated important lines of research in his Department, that in their natural evolution were transformed into new research groups, and that have made it possible to consolidate the position of said Department as a national and international reference ". The book has a wide repertoire of photographs that remind us of some of the professional milestones and not a few aspects of Pedro Molina's most intimate and family environment, as well as moments shared with friends and other anecdotal and endearing photos that recall the most personal and close to this teacher and researcher, including, also, a summary of the great research activity and his scientific career, some work that, in the words of Alberto Tárraga, allowed the UMU to be placed, for the first time in its history "on the map World of Organic Chemistry ".
