The cultural reagent 'Containers of memory' seeks to tell the history of Barrio del Carmen through the memory of its neighbors (07/10/2020)

| The first phase of this social and anthropological intervention and research project, which is also part of Urban DNA, is has developed today in the Artillery Barracks | Pavilion 1 of the Artillery Barracks hosts an initiative launched thanks to the Cultural Reactives program and which is also included in the Urban DNA plan.

'Memory containers.

Historias de Vida ', by Carmen María Martínez Salazar, is a social and anthropological intervention and research project that explores and investigates past memory, with the aim of recording memories linked to the tradition of older people on video.Thus, the objective of this initiative is to deepen the memory of the Carmen neighborhood and, following the aim of ADN Urbano that seeks to revitalize the neighborhoods on the basis of their identity, contribute to the knowledge of the neighbors about their history and the origins of the neighborhoodThanks to this project, moments can be relived through family photographs, and other objects such as books, toys, pots, trousseau ...Through the memory of the selected people, of merchants, who have seen how their businesses were born and are still alive today thanks to their predecessors, and of older people, the memory of the El Carmen neighborhood will be recovered.Thus, this project begins its development today with the 'stretcher table' thanks to which a relaxed and conducive environment is created for memories to emerge freely.

The participants around a table and with papers and pencils at their fingertips, have transmitted their memories in a pleasant and free way, recounting anecdotes, stories, smells or sounds from the neighborhood.

Meanwhile they have been recorded and photographed.They have participated in this initiative Ángel Torrecillas Sánchez, founder and owner of the Hotel Pacoche; Joaquín Roses, owner of the Roses Confectionery; Josefa Cayuela Sánchez, owner and founder of Bar La Papa; Pilar de Comestibles Juan Bernal; Francisco Parra Gracia, founder and owner of Ferretería Parra y Luis el Farmacéutico.Subsequently, and for several days, a route through the old shops of the neighborhood will be carried out and recorded, to speak with the successors, children or grandchildren of their founders to tell how the activity began, in what year and how they lived it.The establishments to be visited are Marlor Photography, Confectionery Roses, Pollos Antonio, Pacoche, Ferretería Parra, Frutería Huerta de Murcia and Confitería Espinosa.With all the audiovisual materials collected, a video will be edited that will be screened at the Artillery Barracks."The 'Reactivos Culturales' plan, to support the cultural sector, continues to materialize with this project.

Historias de Vida 'is one of the initiatives chosen in the' Cuartel de Artillería 'production line to which 246 projects were presented, 56 finally being selected, with a budget of 162,000 euros.One of the lines of work of the Barracks is to investigate and develop neighborhood projects serving as a laboratory of ideas for the ADN Urbano projectADN Urbano is an initiative of the Murcia City Council for the renewal and social activation of the city's neighborhoods, which it is developing in El Carmen, Santa Eulalia and La Paz, creating a common point where public resources can be brought closer to the service of the real needs of neighbors and merchants.The City 2020 Strategy gives the revitalization and integral regeneration of neighborhoods a very prominent role, assuming that each neighborhood has its own characteristics and a unique sensitivity.ADN Urbano works actively with the residents of Carmen, contributing the multicultural value that it possesses, to reactivate buildings and emblematic areas, modernizing the neighborhood again and recovering its historical weight in the city of Murcia.
