The Murcian business fabric turns to the Food Bank and the ´Apadrina una calle´ initiative (06/10/2020)

| Sponsorship involves giving a name to one of the "streets" or rows of shelves that are in the facilities of the charity, through of a donation of 3,000 euros | The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres, the general director of the Segura Food Bank (BASAMUR), José María Gavilán Ríos, the president of the charity, Bonifacio Fernández Núñez, and his secretary, José López Cerdán, delivered today the plaques of the 'Sponsor a street' project, an initiative with which the non-profit charity wants, on the one hand, to give greater visibility to the business fabric of the Region and, on the other, thank you for your involvement with the work carried out by the Food Bank.Sponsorship involves giving a name to one of the "streets" or rows of shelves in the facilities of the Food Bank of Segura.

Companies, through a donation of 3,000 euros, can sponsor a street for a year, a donation that will help the Segura Food Bank to continue to carry out its work in the most efficient way possible, even more so in these tough situations time.Specifically, the first companies that have sponsored a street for one year are Crown, Primafrio, Agrupación de Sardineros, UCAM and EMUASA (the latter for two 2 years).

From BASAMUR they point out that "with this initiative we want companies to identify with the work we do, generating a greater link between the entity itself and companies throughout the province that benefits those in need in the Region."For his part, the mayor of Murcia pointed out that from “the Segura Food Bank is one of those institutions that carry out an essential work in our civil society, especially in these moments of health crisis.

Now, more than ever, they are showing their solidarity, generosity and worth ”.More than 4 million kg of food in 2020In 2019, the entity distributed more than 2.5 million kilos of food and served practically all the charities in the Region.

In total, 30,151 people were beneficiaries.

It is worth highlighting the initiative of the 'Great Collection', in which more than 2,000 volunteers participated, which allowed the Food Bank to be present in more than 200 stores, and in which they collected 350,000 kilos of food.Each year, due to the health crisis, the Segura Food Bank is expected to distribute more than 4 million kilos of food to Murcian families.250,000 euros to face the social emergencyIn order to face the social emergency situation caused by COVID-19, the Governing Board of the Murcia City Council approved in April to allocate a budget of 250,000 euros to the Segura Food Bank, for the acquisition of basic food.
