| Distributed more than 2.5 tons of food to Murcian families during 2019 | The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres, and the president of the Segura Food Bank, Bonifacio Fernández, presented this morning the 2019 Annual Report of the Segura Food Bank, an entity that last year it was a decade since its founding.“The Food Bank of Segura is one of those institutions that carry out an essential work in our civil society, especially in these moments of health crisis, moments in which they have shown us their solidarity, generosity and worth, donating food to families that they have needed them more ”, highlighted José Ballesta during the event.In 2019, the entity distributed more than 2.5 million kilos of food and served practically all the charities in the Region.
In total, 30,151 people were beneficiaries.
It is worth highlighting the initiative of the 'Great Collection', in which more than 2,000 volunteers participated, which allowed the Food Bank to be present in more than 200 stores, and in which they collected 350,000 kilos of food.Each year, due to the health crisis, the Segura Food Bank is expected to distribute more than 4 million food items to Murcian families.250,000 euros to face the social emergencyIn addition, in order to face the social emergency situation caused by COVID-19, the Governing Board approved in April to allocate a budget of 250,000 euros to the Segura Food Bank, for the acquisition of basic food.
