The Museum of Science and Water and the Naval and Sea Technology Center will offer a virtual conference on underwater noise tomorrow (30/09/2020)

| The broadcast will be carried out through the Museum's YouTube channel and is part of the temporary exhibition ' Underwater noise, the great unknown of the seas' | The Museum of Science and Water and the Naval and Sea Technology Center will offer a virtual conference on underwater noise tomorrow Thursday that will be broadcast through the Museum's YouTube channel and which is part of the temporary exhibition 'Submarine noise, the great unknown of the seas'.The virtual conference will be given by the director of the Naval and Sea Technology Center, Noelia Ortega, and by Marta Sánchez Egea, head of Marine Environment of said institution, and will also have a presentation by the director of the Museum, Maribel Parra.With this activity, both institutions continue to collaborate in raising awareness about an environmental problem little known until now, which has a serious impact on the normal development of life under the sea and affects the conservation of its biodiversity, as the investigations have been showing.The temporary exhibition 'Submarine noise, the great unknown of the seas', is included in one of these investigations: the project' Silemar.

Management of underwater noise in marine protected areas.

Case study in the marine reserve of Cabo de Palos-Islas Hormigas', developed by the Centro Tecnológico Naval y del Mar with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation, dependent on the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge.This study analyzes the level of underwater sound of human origin and its possible impact on this protected area of ??the coast of the Region of Murcia, identifies potential sensitive areas and develops a tool to predict changes in sound pressure levels of human origin.

All of this will make it possible to make recommendations for noise monitoring, as well as to propose measures to mitigate and prevent noise pollution at sea.Within the objective of public awareness about this environmental problem, the virtual conference that will take place on Thursday, October 1 at 5:00 p.m.
