The PSOE demands guarantees for canteens and hairdressers in senior centers after the pandemic (30/09/2020)

"The closure of these facilities is causing a lot of damage to the people who run these services, at least they should know if they will be able to reopen their businesses when the health situation returns to normal", denounces the Socialist councilor, Esther Nevado The Municipal Socialist Group denounces the situation in which the people who are in charge of the hairdressing and canteen services are found in the social centers for the elderly in the municipality.

"They have forgotten about them.

The senior centers have been closed since March, we understand that it is a source of risk but the workers who provide these services have been waiting since then to be given some information and it is not fair that they continue in this situation of uncertainty without anyone offering them help or guarantees, "protests Esther Nevado. Murcia has 76 Social Centers for the Elderly, "we are talking about an extensive network that is used by many people in our municipality.

These facilities have a series of services for internal use, such as cafeterias and hairdressers that are provided by third parties to through a temporary assignment contract formalized with the boards of directors of the centers ", explains Nevado. "The problem for those responsible for canteens and hairdressers is not only that they have lost their usual source of income or that they do not know when they will be able to return to their jobs, but also that they are not sure that, when they do, they will continue to have the cession of the space in which they carry out their activity since many of the contracts have expired during the past months since the beginning of the pandemic, as the assemblies of partners that must ratify said contracts cannot be held ", reports the socialist mayor. As a solution, Esther Nevado has proposed to the Councilor for the Elderly of the Murcia City Council "to provide, firstly, a forecast on how long these centers will remain closed, and secondly, that once the situation has stabilized and the sanitary conditions allow it, the extension of the concession of space is assured.

" "The Murcia City Council has a duty not to abandon these workers and offer them some minimum guarantees.

Since they have lost so many months of their usual activity, they should at least be sure that when the situation returns to normal, they will have the space where to do it ", concludes Nevado.
