More than 39 million seeds will re-green the grasslands of the municipality thanks to the Re-planting Plan (28/09/2020)

| These actions are carried out in 100,000 square meters of grass distributed in more than a thousand green areas throughout the municipality | The Deputy Mayor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, presented this morning the 2020-2021 Reseeding Plan that will allow the planting of 39 million seeds in different green areas of the municipality."With this initiative we keep the green areas in perfect condition so that they can be enjoyed by all the residents of the municipality.

We green these spaces, which reduces the ambient temperature, reduces noise, improves the environment and increases biodiversity, improving quality life of Murcians, which is our priority.

A greener city is a cleaner city that is more respectful of people ", José Guillén highlighted. These works will be carried out by members of the concessionaire of Parks and Gardens, STV-Actúa, which has previously made an analysis of the different green areas of the municipality of Murcia to know in which spaces or green areas a reseeding and improvement action is necessary.Specifically, it will act on the green areas of the neighborhoods and districts of the municipality of Murcia, where the technicians value the convenience of carrying out replanting tasks. The system used is a motor-cultivator that plows the land, after which top dressing and peat are applied, thus achieving that these seeds grow quickly and give rise to a green and strong lawn.It should be noted that the trend in lawns is to use species with low water consumption and low maintenance, such as paspalum, vaginatum, zoysia, etc.Steps to follow for lawn reseedingThe most appropriate steps to do it correctly are the following:Clean the surface of weeds, that is, the remains of dry leaves and roots. The soil must then be removed and aerated to ensure that the water has not been poorly drained or accumulated anywhere.

For this, we can do it manually with a rake or mechanically with a rototiller.

The best thing to do for this scarification process is to drill the earth to a depth of 15 cm.It is highly recommended to add a little organic compost with vegetable components such as peat. After you have completed these three tasks, it is time to level the ground to the same height as the rest of the lawn.Once the land has been prepared, it is time to reseed.

They are planted according to their specific overseeding conditions to do so properly, depending on the species to be planted.

The usual is 1kg of seed for every 35 m2 (19,445 seeds / Kg approx). The planting of these seeds cannot be left unprotected.

These parts are covered with a layer of soil of approximately 2 millimeters, so that the birds do not eat it.

You can also add a straw blanket to better feed the area and prevent these fertilizers from drying out.Post-maintenance is essential.

This area must be sprayed or watered finely two or four times a day until the grass is visible.
