Murcia, an intelligent municipality committed to the environment (27/09/2020)

| When the 2030 Agenda, approved by the United Nations General Assembly, has passed 5 years, the Smart City project in Murcia is also focused and committed to caring for the environment | The Murcia City Council, through the Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration led by José Guillén, continues its commitment to improving the quality of life of residents, and for this, it is developing concrete actions that contribute to improving the environment environment, making Murcia a municipality committed to caring for and creating natural spaces and carrying out specific actions that improve air quality. When the 5-year anniversary of the 2030 Agenda, approved by the United Nations General Assembly, the Smart City project in Murcia is also focused and committed to caring for the environment."Our mission is to improve the quality of life of all Murcians and that is only achieved by betting on projects that contribute to caring for the environment and the environment.

We offer friendly environments, such as Murcia Río, that allow you to relax, play sports outdoors and to back up the municipality, and in addition, we carry out actions that save resources and reduce spending ", José Guillén highlighted.More than 50 gardens are controlled and monitored remotely thanks to the Murcia Smart City projectThe mechanism controls irrigation with a Wi-Fi system and allows you to remotely activate, deactivate or control the water or humidity of the different green areasA schedule that is adjusted depending on the season we are in, and that is controlled by 112 programmers located in the gardens of Murcia. Large trees are also controlled by sensors that increase security controls informing about the tree's environment, temperature, irrigation, soil moisture, as well as foliar. This pioneering initiative, since it is the first time in all of Spain that it has been carried out on ornamental trees, provides sufficient data to determine a history and predict tree stress situations and minimize risks.  Foresta Plan, Smart City Plan The City Council and LG will collaborate in the reforestation of 450 hectares of green areas thanks to the union of the Foresta Plan and the Smart Green movement. The plantations will be carried out with drones that detect the most appropriate areas and with smart 'iSeed' seeds, embedded in a biodegradable capsule that protects them, ensuring maximum effectiveness in the planting process. The City Council has made available to LG the 450 hectares of municipal green areas that it has available for new plantations. This action is part of the Forest Plan, the roadmap that is marking urban environmental and landscape planning in the municipality, with which the City Council will double the forest mass for the next ten years, reaching 200,000 copies.'Oasis' the pioneering project that reduces pollution particles by up to 81% implemented for the first time in MurciaThe project has been carried out in the Garden of Santa Isabel and involves the implantation of pavement made from crushed tire rubber impregnated with a photo catalytic agent, an innovative material that reduces the pollution of vehicle gases such as nitrous oxide. The results show that this new pavement can reduce nitrous oxide by about 20%, reducing the level of polluting particles by up to 81%.In addition, it is an anti-abrasive and non-slip flooring that reduces the temperature of the floor.

The results show that it is a soil that prevents the growth of fungi (antibacterial), reduces the carbon footprint and surface temperature, eliminates volatile organic compounds (VOC) and contributes to the creation of safe environments for smaller, as it involves the application of continuous floors.'Oasis' is an R + D + i project (research, development and innovation), developed by the Murcian company RNC, which improves the air quality of the municipality by applying the latest technological advances.Murcia works to deploy the first public electric vehicle charging network in the countryThe Local Electric Vehicle Strategy is the most important milestone in terms of support policies for the electric vehicle carried out so far in the City Council, which includes a total of 50 measures that seek to reduce polluting emissions in Murcia and which was recognized in 2019 with the 'Renault Award for the best practice in Sustainable and Accessible Mobility', in the category of Public Administration. The strategy, which was approved in 2017 as a result of a participatory process.

In this way, we advance in the clean air strategic lines supporting measures that allow raising the environmental quality for the residents of the municipality.Pool Goal 2023 The rehabilitation and improvement of the fountains is included in the well-known Plan Alberca 2023, which aims to bring to all the residents of the municipality the benefits that the installation of fountains and lakes in green areas brings.

They are spaces that attract life, in addition to being a spectacle, since the cascading water is one of the most beautiful visual perceptions of nature; they improve air quality, turning green areas into cooler spaces with cleaner air; create a relaxing space; they provide a microclimate, softening temperatures and are a hallmark of our municipality. The Ivy Plan will plant more than 200,000 carpet plants to green the municipality and fight against pollution Ivy is one of the plant species with the greatest capacity in nature to fix CO2, decontaminating the air we breathe. This plan will act in arid areas, depleted of vegetation for various reasons, which will become green areas with carpets that grow very fast and need little watering once they settle.

In this way, the ivy not only occupies flowerbeds, but also settles on slopes, turning those spaces into green places with climbing and covering species.Ivy is a plant that adapts very well to all types of soils and climates, and in winter it is practically possible to eliminate watering.

In fact, during the colder months with lower temperatures, it is enough to water it once a week, while in the hot months and higher temperatures it is increased between 3 and 4 times to keep the plant properly hydrated.Only smart luminaires installed in the last year will avoid the emission of 12 million kilos of CO2, throughout their useful lifeThe Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration has renovated in the last year more than 5,000 points of light distributed in about 200 locations in Murcia and districts.
