The rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, and the vice-rector for Infrastructure Planning, Belén López, accompanied the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, on Monday in the visit that he and part of the municipal government team have made to the Works that are being carried out in the access to the Espinardo Campus from the A-30 highway, which involve the construction of a new roundabout, which will avoid the delays caused at the entrance and exit to the campus. The roundabout will connect exit 136 of the A-30 with the university complex, the Madrid highway and Avenida Severo Ochoa, and will reduce traffic problems, reorganizing traffic and preventing thousands of vehicles from having to reach the campus entrance to go to the industrial estate of the area, to the urbanization of Los Rectores and to the Myrtea shopping center (formerly called El Tiro). The works, which began last July and were awarded for an amount of 419,625.69 euros, have an execution period of five months, so they are expected to finish by the end of the year.
The works prior to the demolition of the existing pavement have already begun, taking advantage of the decrease in traffic in the area during the summer period. The implementation of this project so demanded by the university community has been possible thanks to collaboration between the Vice-Rector's Office for Infrastructure Planning, led by Belén López; the Department of Infrastructure, Works and Public Services, headed by the Councilor for Development, Mario Gómez; and Demarcation of State Roads in Murcia, of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda.
