More than 240,000 new shrub plants to create green perimeters in the parks and gardens of the municipality (19/09/2020)

| The objective is to revegetate and re-green the green areas of neighborhoods and districts, all this framed in the Ivy Plan, with which it is intended to cover dozens of thousands of m2 | The Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, led by José Guillén, through the Parks and Gardens Service, continues to execute the 'Plan Hiedra' throughout the municipality.

To this end, more than 240,000 shrub plants are being planted that create green screens in the parks and gardens of the municipality. In total, 120,000 shrub plants and 120,000 ivy will be planted. The objective of this plan is to revegetate and re-green the green areas, all framed in this plan, with which it is intended to cover tens of thousands of m2 in neighborhoods and districts of the municipality."These shrub and ground cover plants reduce environmental pollution by removing CO2 from the atmosphere, improve air quality and increase biodiversity.

Furthermore, they make our soils more fertile and have a greater capacity to retain water, enriching them and saving them from pollution.

desertification.

They also beautify parks and gardens, minimizing the thermal sensation and improving the safety of the little ones, since they act as a natural barrier marking a security perimeter ", José Guillén highlightedThus today, thousands of specimens already create a natural fence that provides a multitude of environmental and health benefits.

This perimeter is already placed in spaces such as the garden of Los Naranjos (Santo Ángel), in the garden of José Antonio Camacho, in Puerta Nueva, in the neighborhoods of San Antón, San Lorenzo, San Miguel, Santa María de Gracia, el Infante and in the Salitre, among others. The Hiedra Plan is already underway in different locations in the flowerbeds of Calle Greco, Calle Navegante Juan Fernández, Paseo Joaquín Garrigues Walker, in the area of ??FREMM, Juan Carlos I, Malecón and Calle Sol de Puente Tocinos, between others. As for the species, there are Metrosideros Yuca, Leucofillum, Leptospermum as well as Elephantipes, which are watered and pruned periodically to maintain their correct perimeter image. The Ivy Plan will cover 30,000 m2 in the municipalityThis plan will act in arid areas, depleted of vegetation for various reasons, which will become green areas with carpets that grow very fast and hardly need watering once they settle.

In this way, the ivy not only occupies flower beds, but also settles on slopes, turning those spaces into green places with climbing species and carpeting.Ivy is a plant that adapts very well to all types of soils and climates, and in winter it is practically possible to eliminate watering.

In fact, during the colder months with lower temperatures, it is enough to water it once a week, while in the hot months and higher temperatures it is increased between 3 and 4 times to keep the plant properly hydrated.Benefits and characteristics of upholstery plantsAmong the main characteristics of carpet plants are their low size and fast growth.

These plants are highly desired and necessary in gardening when you want to cover large areas of horizontal or vertical surfaces. They are generally kept at a moderate height, are strong, and extend in all directions, covering the spaces around them. But in addition, upholstery plants offer many benefits to the surfaces where they climb or cover, and the main ones are:  • They prevent the land from continuing to erode with the rains, winds and sun.  • They prevent the multiplication of weeds.  • They are a good alternative to common grass in some areas of our garden, significantly reducing the water consumption of our green areas.  • They require much less care and maintenance, thus reducing costs to the public purse.  • They are strong and resistant plants.Ivy is one of those with the greatest capacity in nature to fix CO2, decontaminating the air we breathe.
