Murcia anticapitalistas denounces the non-start of canteen services in some educational centers of the Murcia municipality (18/09/2020)

We call on the AMPAS and the unions not to allow the economic and human costs derived from the reconciliation of the closure of some school canteens to fall on the shoulders of working families, already in a situation of precariousness and impoverishment , as well as preventing families from being forced to put our elders at risk.We have learned that in some teaching centers in the municipality of Murcia they have informed families that the dining room service is not going to be started, specifically the CE INF-PRI Ntra.

Señora de los Dolores in El Raal, Murcia; under the criterion that there are not enough students for the service to be given. We live moments of exceptionality with COVID-19.

The canteen service in the public school is essential to serve families who need to reconcile and that for health reasons it is not recommended that the smallest and smallest once they have started classes are attended by grandparents and grandmothers, a population in a situation of risk. The Government of the Region of Murcia has received millions of euros to deal with this situation that must be put at the service of education, health, as well as spaces for conciliation for working families, the school cafeteria being a fundamental element. We denounce that in the face of this terrible situation for many working families of job loss and the impossibility of conciliation, the continuity of some public services continues to be assessed under the profitability criteria of private companies, and not under social and health criteria, as is the case of the school canteens. The non-continuity of fundamental work-life balance spaces for many working families such as the early morning classroom and the dining room, together with the uncertainty of not knowing if they will be able to access sick leave when the youngest and smallest cannot go to school for health reasons ; It is causing the economic and human costs caused by this exceptional health situation to fall on the shoulders of working families, already precarious and impoverished. We call on the AMPAS not to allow this situation and to defend the families.

Just as we call on both educational unions and all sectors to assume the responsibility of denouncing the situation of many working families and embark on the path of conflict if solutions are not found. If this situation continues, from Anticapitalistas Murcia we not only call for an educational strike for the safe return to classes, but also for a general strike in the Region of Murcia.

It is an injustice to make working families fall into the dilemma between following health instructions so as not to put their sons and daughters, grandmothers and grandfathers at risk; or continue to produce, in some cases under unsafe sanitary conditions, in order not to lose work, putting themselves, their loved ones and by extension the whole of society at risk.If they want us to continue producing under these conditions, the administration and companies must bear the costs of care and conciliation.
