The seven major cities of Spain analyze the challenges of mobility in times of pandemic (17/09/2020)

| The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, will analyze this afternoon the future of public transport and the new challenges derived from the pandemic that the sector is facing, in the national forum ' The importance of Mobility and Public Transport in the Municipalities of Spain ', which will be developed virtually, and in which experts and representatives of the seven largest cities in Spain will participate: Barcelona, ??Madrid, Valencia, Zaragoza, Malaga, Murcia and Las Palmas.“The coronavirus has not only been a health crisis, but it has also affected other sectors, including transport and mobility.

We are facing a stage of great changes, motivated by this health crisis, but also by the need to advance in strategies to improve air quality and the fight against climate change, ”said José Ballesta, who will open the forum, together to the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez.“Citizens, for reasons of prevention or fear of the pandemic, are stopping using public transport and returning to the private vehicle, with which we are facing an absolute contradiction to what the future of any sustainable city should be and, therefore Therefore, we must face this paradoxical situation that is taking place not only in Murcia and Spain, but in different countries ”, concluded the mayor.In addition, José Ballesta added that "from the Murcia City Council we are working to enable new clean mobility systems, create low emission or restricted access areas, as well as to expand pedestrian environments and walking routes".ParticipantsExperts in transport and mobility will participate in the virtual meeting - coordinators and heads of the Mobility area of ??the seven largest cities in Spain, managers of public transport companies, and professionals and technicians specialized in transport and the DGT.The session is framed within the European Mobility Week 2020, which is taking place this week with a hundred activities in Murcia and its districts.
