The City Council will rehabilitate the facades of eleven buildings of high artistic value located in Murcia and its districts (16/09/2020)

| Presentation of the latest projects framed within the Consistory Restoration and Rehabilitation Plan | The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the councilor for Sustainable Development and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, and the mayor of Pedanías and Barrios, Marco Antonio Fernández, presented this morning the latest projects framed within the Town Hall's Restoration and Rehabilitation Plan; eleven properties distributed in Murcia and its districts that present a high artistic or architectural value, in which different works will be deployed focused on the rehabilitation of their facades."Exalting the patrimonial and architectural value of a total of 11 emblematic buildings, distributed in Murcia and its districts, which have a great cultural component and are part of the living history of Murcia is the objective of the actions that we present today", highlighted José Ballesta, who added that "the Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Cortes, in Nonduermas, where we are right now, as well as the Hermitage of San Roque de Algezares and the Casa Torre Guil de Sangonera La Verde are some of the chosen spaces."Specifically, the bases of this call were published in the Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia on January 17, 2019, to promote the restoration of the facades of civil buildings owned and used privately; the exterior restoration of religious buildings, of worship and collective use, and the structural rehabilitation of buildings classified as BIC grade 1 and 2.After evaluating the applications submitted and taking into account the bases of the contest, as well as the evaluation criteria, the City Council - specifically, from the Urban Discipline Service, Rehabilitation and Ruins Section - proposed the granting of aid for the eleven chosen buildings, the total amount of which amounts to 194,169.98 euros.

Currently, the projects are in the provisional award phase.The College of Architects of Murcia, among those chosenThe projects presented focus on the repair and renovation of the facades of the chosen properties.

In the Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Cortes de Nonduermas the exterior facades will be restored, the cracks in the vault of the main nave will be repaired and a complete restoration of the roof of its Parish House will be carried out, among other measures.Other enclaves in which improvement actions are going to be undertaken are the Torre Guil House in Sangonera La Verde, the Azarbe Residence Hall in Murcia, the Murcia College of Architects and the building located on González Adalid street, numbers 11 and 13 , on the corner of Platería Street, listed as BIC - a modernist style building dating from 1930, designed by José Antonio Rodríguez.More places: Convalescence, the La Peraleja farm in Sucina and the Hermitage of San Roque de AlgezaresThe program includes different actions in eleven buildings scattered around Murcia and its districts, such as the following:-Rehabilitation of the battlements and the facade of the Convalescence building of the University of Murcia, located in Paseo Teniente Flomesta.

In this space, the ornamental elements at the top of the façade and roof will be rehabilitated, and the wooden carpentry on windows and shutters will be repaired, as well as the replacement and reconstruction of deteriorated pieces.-Rehabilitation of the facade of the La Peraleja estate in Sucina.

This farm, which has a farmhouse built in the 19th century and includes a series of interior patios, orchards, pine groves, gardens, as well as several annex buildings around the body of a main house, covers an area of ??4,740m2.La Peraleja has been a benchmark in the history of Sucina, not only because of the beauty and originality of the architectural complex it forms, but also because the life of the town has been closely linked to that of the house and farm since it was acquired at the beginning of the XIX century, when it was put up for auction by the Treasury in the Mendizábal confiscation.-Rehabilitation of the Hermitage of San Roque de Algezares, an 18th century building.

The watchtower where the Ermita de San Roque is located is one of the fourteen enclaves included in a network of strategic viewpoints where residents can enjoy the best views of the landscape that surrounds the Murcian capital.

The repair of the central vault, the replacement of the structure and roof of the sacristy, as well as the repair of the main access door are some of the works that will be carried out.The Los Penchos mansion, in La Albatalía, and the Guillamón building, with modernist architectureThe remaining buildings in which the actions will take place are:-Rehabilitation of the Guillamón building, on Calle San Patricio, Nº10, in Murcia.

Located between San Patricio, Sol and Frenería streets in Murcia, it is within the modernist route of Murcia, being one of the best examples of modernist architecture in the capital along with the Díaz Cassou house and the Cerdá building.It was built between 1920 and 1924 by the Murcian architect José Antonio Rodríguez Martínez –the Murcian municipal architect who also built the Casa Cerdá, the Casa de los 9 Floors, the Convalescence and the La Alegría de la Huerta Warehouse.

Also called Ferretería Guillamón, it survived the reform of the Plaza de la Catedral de Murcia and has now become one of the most emblematic buildings in the historic center of the city.In this enclave, restoration works will be carried out on the viewpoints on its façade, improving their conservation and putting an end to leaks.-Rehabilitation of the building located in the Los Penchos lane, at number 71, in La Albatalía; a mansion with plants and a chamber, in which the furniture will be removed, as well as the demolition and repair of partitions that are damaged and pose a risk, if necessary, among other actions.Rehabilitation of the facades of three buildings in the historic centerAmong other actions, this program also involved the rehabilitation of the facades of three buildings in the historic center of Murcia last year - the properties that are located on González Adalid, Pintor Villacís and Sagasta streets - which received a comprehensive improvement on their facades .Specifically, the workers renovated the facades of the buildings located at number 6 of González Adalid street, at number 2 of Pintor Villacís street and in the building of number 27 of Sagasta street, next to number 1 of Bendame Street.

All these properties are part of the most traditional urban area of ??the city and are protected by the Special Plan for the Historic-Artistic Complex of Murcia.
