More than 300 tree species become green works of art (12/09/2020)

| This technique, called 'topiary', is carried out to allow greater visibility to the vehicles that circulate on the roads | The Murcia City Council continues to beautify the different green areas of the municipality for which it has decided to carry out pruning work on more than 300 tree species, an action known as 'topiary' which consists of making different artistic forms.Specifically, we are working on three types of shapes: plate, cylinder or mushroom.

"We turn these spaces in the municipality into green works of art, which beautify our accesses and make our municipality more beautiful, with the maxim always to improve the quality of life of our neighbors", José Guillén stressed.Right now there are more than 1,700 tree species in the municipality of Murcia, although only this type of decorative actions are carried out in those that are in roundabouts and medians, just over 300.Its advantages are numerous, such as allowing greater visibility of the vehicles that circulate in a roundabout, avoiding the fall of branches, lifting of roots, a smaller volume and ultimately greater visibility combined with beauty.Among the different places where you can see this type of specimen and its particular pruning, called 'topiary', are Miguel Induraín's medians, with more than 150, Sangonera la Verde with more than 50 specimens, the knot with Ciudad de Almería with 25 or the Redonda de la Arrixaca with 6, among others. Murcia has more than twenty professionals from the STV Gestión concession company who carry out more than five pruning actions throughout the year, especially in the months when these specimens grow the most, such as spring and summer.
