The City Council will begin to adapt pedestrian crossings for people with autism spectrum disorder at the end of the month (10/09/2020)

| The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, has held a meeting with representatives of Asteamur and Faum to agree on this initiative | The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, has held a meeting with representatives of Asteamur and Faum and technicians of the Traffic Service to advance in the implementation of measures that allow regulations or traffic signs to be more inclusive and easier to understand also for people with autism spectrum disorder.Thus, at the end of September, it will begin to adapt with special reinforcements through iconic or pictographic signage the signalized pedestrian crossings, implementing functional itineraries in centers that concentrate more needs both in neighborhoods and districts."This consensual proposal that will validate the Arasaac (Aragonese Center for Augmentative and Alternative Communication), a recognized portal of pictographic design, for its immediate implementation in neighborhoods and districts of the Municipality of Murcia", the councilor indicated.The initiative, which will begin on the roads around the educational centers and on those busy streets, will involve drawing different pictograms on the pedestrian crossings. According to experts, pictograms are the fundamental basis in the learning process of any person with this disorder.In each of these zebra crossings, the iconic signs drawn that represent a real object will be painted and that favor communication and understanding by synthesizing the message.Councilor Rebeca Pérez has indicated that "it is an initiative that involves moving towards a better society and creating a more accessible Murcia".
