Murcia lights up in turquoise tonight on the occasion of World SAF Syndrome Day (09/09/2020)

The City Council, through the Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration led by José Guillén and the Department of Social Rights and Family, led by Pilar Torres, joins this initiative in order to give visibility to those affected by this disease and raise awareness about the challenges and difficulties that families who suffer from the FAS syndrome (fetal alcohol syndrome) have to face. Thus, at 8:45 p.m., the Moneo Building, Paseo Alfonso X, the riverbed and the Almudí Palace will be illuminated in turquoise on the occasion of the International Day of the FAS Syndrome. It is a very serious disorder since it irreversibly affects the baby's brain, producing very important neuronal alterations.

Alcohol during pregnancy is the first cause according to the WHO of intellectual disability in the world and in Spain. The denomination "fetal alcohol spectrum disorder" (FASD), in English Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), groups a wide range of physical, behavioral and cognitive abnormalities, being the FAS the most serious since it groups the largest number of alterations clinics.
