| The councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, inaugurates this training action of the consistory within the summer courses and activities of the 37th edition of the International University of the Sea | The councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, today inaugurated the course 'Sustainable management of the garden' at the Faculty of Biology, one of the training actions of the Murcia City Council within the summer courses and activities of the 37th edition of the International University of the Sea (Unimar), which has about thirty students, thus reaching the maximum capacity allowed."The garden is undoubtedly one of our most important environmental pieces in our municipality, which occupies a fundamental place in the sustainable development of our urban spaces," explained the mayor during the opening ceremony, together with the dean of the Faculty of Biology, Alfonsa García Ayala, the director of Unimar, María José Portillo, and the professor of the UMU and director of the course, José María Egea.

 For Mercedes Bernabé, “this training is closely aligned with the strategic axes of this consistory for the recovery and conservation of our environment, such as the garden of Murcia.

This natural enclave marks the growth lines of our municipality for the coming years, where we are working, through the Murcia 2030 Urban Agenda and the Circular Economy Strategy, where the need to value local consumption and the importance of fruit trees for caring for the environment ”. The course 'Management of the garden of Murcia', which will end next Friday, September 11, will try to contribute to the conservation of the peri-urban agricultural space, the food sustainability of the urban system and the socioeconomic development of the metropolitan area of ??Murcia through of initiatives that promote food production under agroecological and local principles.
