The City Council deploys a special disinfection device in educational centers that will be maintained throughout the course (28/08/2020)

José Ballesta: "We guarantee the cleaning of the 116 public centers for Infant, Special and Primary Education in the municipality with a view to the beginning of the course, with a rigorous device that includes a battery of daily and extraordinary sanitation actions, inside and access to schools ".The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Education and Infant Schools, Belén López, and the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, today supervised the work of the special cleaning and disinfection device that is being finalized in all the educational centers of the municipality of Murcia for the beginning of the course and that will be maintained throughout the year.“We thus guarantee the cleanliness and hygiene of the 116 public centers for Infant, Special and Primary Education in the municipality for the beginning of the course, a device that we will maintain throughout the year, with daily and rigorous cleaning of all common areas, as well as in-depth disinfection three times a day of critical points such as toilets, once after recess, another at the end of the school day and another according to the guidelines set by the centers themselves ”, highlighted the mayor.The Cleaning and Disinfection Plan against COVID-19 includes a battery of daily and extraordinary sanitation actions with weekly, bi-weekly, monthly intervals and during the Christmas, Easter and summer holidays, to guarantee cleaning and disinfection optimal both for school buildings, furniture and fixtures, as well as for the surroundings of the centers."All the operators who make up this special device perform an essential task to guarantee the safety of students and teachers, maintaining as safe areas both the entrances and the interior of the educational center and the elements for individual and shared use," said the councilor.All these works, which will be carried out over an area covering more than 4,000,000 m2, represent a municipal investment of 5.6 million euros.Hydraulic cleaning equipment at the entrances to the centersThe special disinfection and cleaning plan against the coronavirus also includes the accesses and environments of all educational centers in the municipality of Murcia (206), where it will work with hydro-cleaning equipment with a capacity of up to 400 liters of water and the use of Dilute sodium hypochlorite applied by pole to optimize the result.The product used is characterized by having a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity and by being of rapid bactericidal action, without leaving any type of toxic residue.

To carry out their tasks, the disinfection workers are provided with raincoats, masks, gloves and protective glasses.In addition to educational centers, municipal cleaning services operate in places with high traffic, such as health centers, homes for the elderly and disabilities, hospitals, senior centers, Covid points, markets, as well as container points, bins and all urban furniture.Disinfection of tables, knobs and railingsIn addition to the adequate ventilation of the center and each of the classrooms, the device includes daily intensive cleaning of the patio area, classrooms, teachers' rooms, offices, assembly halls, offices, libraries, laboratories, gyms, corridors, stairs, railings, toilets and changing rooms, as well as furniture (disinfection of tables, chairs, doorknobs, wastebaskets, cabinets, counters, computer equipment, etc.).The floors of all the rooms where teaching activities are taught will be washed with water and disinfectants and all kinds of furniture and equipment will be dusted.As previously mentioned, special emphasis will be placed on cleaning and disinfection of sanitary services and facilities, toilets, changing rooms, etc.Signage campaign in school environmentsOn the other hand, the City Council is developing a campaign to repaint signage in school environments that includes messages to prevent COVID-19.

The main objective is to improve road markings to make them more visible and to widen pedestrian crossings to allow physical distance.

This plan will run until September 7 in the 116 public schools in neighborhoods and districts.
