This action, which will increase the number of effective hours of use of the park by Murcian families, is part of the Shadow Plan of the Murcia City Council, which combines two mixed systems: the installation of canopies and pergolas; and the planting of large trees.A sandbox for the smallest of familiesThe City Council has also set up a new play area for the little ones, which has a sandbox and more modern and safe elements.

In addition, the pavement of the old children's play area has been renovated with continuous rubber and a new rest area has been fitted out with beds.

The Consistory has also acted on an area of ??6,000 square meters of the park as a whole, which has been repaved.Promotion of local art through a muralAmong the actions carried out in the park, the adaptation of a new bio-healthy exercise area to promote outdoor sports, as well as an urban mural with artistic motifs, encouraging the expression of local art, stands out.Smart and sustainable irrigation systemThe garden irrigation system has been modernized and is controlled by satellite, telematically, minimizing losses.

This system makes it possible to adapt irrigation to the environmental conditions and water needs of each moment, and will encourage more specimens to flourish, generating a new urban forest. The modernization of the irrigation system is part of the Murcia Smart City municipal strategy, which is developed through the MiMurcia project, the smart city model that puts the latest technological innovations at the service of people, improving the quality of life of Murcians and environmental sustainability.Plan Foresta: more than 260 trees and 300 m2 shrubsThe Antonio Martínez Guirao garden has a total of 265 trees, of which 18 have been recently planted, a measure framed within the City Council's 2030 Forest Plan, “with which we are going to double the number of specimens in the municipality throughout the next decade, reaching 200,000 trees ”, said the Murcian councilor.

In this sense, it is worth remembering a tree absorbs up to 150kg of CO2 per year. The park, whose shrub space has been expanded to 300 square meters, will also have new insect hotels and nest boxes, which will be installed in September and will create a biodiversity space for birds of different sizes.Information campaign with signs indicating the capacityThe Consistory has deployed an information campaign both in the children's areas and in the gymnastics equipment of the 600 parks in the neighborhoods and districts of Murcia, among which is the Antonio Martínez Guirao park in Santiago and Zaraiche. These areas, which are open under all safety and hygiene protocols, have been marked with informational signs that indicate the capacity of each space - depending on the size of the park - and the safety distance, among other indications.1.3 million euros for the gardens of Murcian districtsThe remodeling of this garden is part of the Renace Plan, which involves the development of another nine parks in the districts of Murcia, located in Cabezo de Torres, Sangonera La Verde, Aljucer, Guadalupe, Puente Tocinos, Torreagüera, Espinardo and Patiño , with an investment of almost 1.3 million euros.
