IU Verdes Murcia requests a commission to assess the status of the Cultural and Historical Heritage of the municipality of Murcia (17/08/2020)

"We do not know if it is by chance or by neglect that Administrations are always late to recover historical buildings and the only thing that occurs to them is to demolish them: we cannot let our heritage be ruined by the neglect and neglect of the institutions." Given the announcement of the demolition of the neo-baroque building on Avenida Alfonso X, where only the sgraffito panels have been protected, the IU-Verdes Murcia Culture Area has requested the constitution of a commission to assess the state of monuments and buildings of the municipal cultural and historical heritage.

The left wing formation has blamed the municipal and regional administration for the state of abandonment and the subsequent demolition of the building due to its "laziness and lack of leadership": "from IU-Verdes we think it is very sad that the only thing that is The Ministry of Culture proposes to leave a documentary record of the features of the building instead of having intervened in time, before the current state of abandonment is presented.

" Thus, they affirm that another example is the Casa Torre Falcón de Espinardo, ceded to the municipal council almost 20 years ago by its owners in good condition, and that due to the laziness of the council it has suffered various acts of vandalism: graffiti, doors and windows torn off, and roof sagging, etc.

Despite the fact that the city council has recently announced that it will intervene and remodel the property, from the Culture department of the formation they regret that "as always, it is late and this will cause the cost to the municipal coffers to be much higher than what initially it would have been difficult if they had intervened in time, which was not done despite the fact that numerous associations and political institutions reported the case.

" In the opinion of the person in charge of the Culture Area of ??IU-Verdes, Manuela Écija, "this commission is essential to know how many historical buildings are in the same dilapidated state as the Torre Falcón House; a patrimonial audit would allow to intervene in time, safeguard the wealth and save money for taxpayers because neglect costs money.

" The absolute disinterest shown by the City Council in preserving and enhancing some vestiges of our past, is leading to show alarming situations, as is the case of the Veronicas Wall and the San Esteban Site, where the almost € 9000 spent on the show lights and sound in February would have helped reduce the weather effects on the site, the Algezares necropolis, Antonete Gálvez's house, even the Murcia Cathedral itself. "They prefer to place plates and paving stones to indicate what had to be worried about intervening quickly and effectively: we cannot continue to hear advertising of what is going to be done, it is necessary to design a quick and concrete intervention plan and not just a facelift and declaration of intentions ".
