Guadalupe opens the Libertad Park with a picnic area surrounded by 150 trees and a 200 m2 pergola at the end of the month (14/08/2020)

| Water and shade take center stage in this environment, which has a new ornamental fountain and whose pavement and urban furniture have been completely renovated | The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, supervised the works that are being carried out in the Libertad de Guadalupe park, which are facing their final stretch and involve the complete renovation of the garden, that will have a large ornamental fountain, picnic area with picnic tables and more modern and safe children's games, opening up as a place for leisure and neighborhood coexistence in the heart of the district, with the shade provided by the 150 large trees size of the garden, to which will be added a pergola of 200 square meters."This green area, of 6,000 square meters, joins other healthy areas of the municipality, such as Murcia Río, the Vía Verde or the pedestrian axes of the Murcia Peatonal plan," said José Ballesta, who added that "working for the improvement of the state collective health of half a million Murcian, favoring clean mobility and physical activity, and promoting sustainability, to maintain environmental quality levels, are two strategic principles of the Murcia City Council ”.Specifically, the City Council has allocated an investment of 131,813.85 to the complete renovation of this park, which will directly benefit the almost 7,300 inhabitants of this district and whose works are scheduled to end at the end of the month.The water and the shadow, main elementsThe park, which has been completely repaved, will also have a new 200 m2 pergola, a measure that is part of the Shadow Plan, minimizing the effects of high temperatures.Water also takes on a special role in this garden, which has a new ornamental fountain, which has low consumption lights to illuminate the water jets and an anemometer –a device to measure wind speed–, which allows the management of the jet system in case of bad weather.

This action is part of the Pool Plan, launched by the City Council to alleviate the effects of climate change through water.Newer playgrounds and a 250 m2 urban tattoo to promote local artThe garden will also debut more modern and safer children's games.

Likewise, new elements will be incorporated in the central area of ??the park, among which is a large flower bed surrounded by slate-finished benches, which will function as artistic and living elements.To this central landmark of the park is added the performance that is being carried out in the amphitheater of the garden, where the old decoration is being replaced by a more modern one with geometric and colorful artistic motifs, which implies the creation of an urban tattoo of 250 square meters of extension.

The urban tattoo design has been chosen by public competition, promoting citizen participation and the expression of local art, and will be made with ecological paint.Picnic and barbecue tables with recycled materialsThe garden will have a new picnic area, picnic tables and barbecues made with recycled materials, creating a new neighborhood meeting space.

As for sports, it will house elements for all ages: geronto-gymnastics equipment, a new basket and a larger children's play area with more recreational activities for families, among others.Likewise, the works include the renovation of the petanque court and the creation of a new lounge area from which the activity carried out on the petanque courts can be seen.A more sustainable smart irrigation systemThe garden irrigation system has been modernized and is controlled by satellite, telematically, minimizing losses.

This system allows the irrigation to be adapted to the environmental conditions and water needs of each moment.The modernization of the irrigation system is part of the Murcia Smart City municipal strategy, which is developed through the MiMurcia project, the smart city model that puts the latest technological innovations at the service of people, improving the quality of life of Murcians and environmental sustainability.New trees and more aromatic plantsIn addition to the 150 existing trees, the City Council is working on the planting in an area close to the garden a pine forest composed of 155 new trees, an action framed within the Forest Plan 2030 - the City Council's roadmap with which the number of trees will be doubled.

The City Council has invested almost 1.3 million euros in this plan.
