The City Council will recover the Torre Falcón House, an emblem of the Huerta de Murcia from the 18th century located in Espinardo (13/08/2020)

| This project will involve the rehabilitation of the building and its surroundings, with the creation of orchards-gardens, among other actions | The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the councilor for Sustainable Development and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, and the mayor of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, presented this morning the project for the rehabilitation of the Falcón Tower and its surroundings, which is located in Espinardo and is an emblem of the Huerta, baroque style and representative of the landscape, history and traditional way of life, whose construction dates from the first third of the 18th century.“About four years ago we launched the La Huerta Action Plan with the aim of highlighting the most important legacy that Murcians have: La Huerta de Murcia, our most valuable historical, cultural and ecological legacy, which is part of our collective identity ”, highlighted José Ballesta, who added that“ with this plan we have carried out different environmental and patrimonial actions, such as the recovery of the Molinos del Amor, El Batán and La Pólvora ”.During the presentation, the Murcian councilor pointed out that “with the project that we present today, the Huerta de Murcia will recover another of the most important elements of its heritage, the Casa Torre Falcón, an emblem of the Huerta de Murcia, an action that will directly benefit to the 12,584 residents of the Espinardo neighborhood ”.

It is a project that has already been written and has been in execution for 12 months. The Falcón Tower was a manor house of a noble family and in turn an agricultural centerThe Casa Torre Falcón takes its name from its original owners, although it also belonged to the Marquis of Ordoño.

Specifically, the Tower as a construction was adapted to a double activity: it was a manor house for recreation of a noble family and, on the other hand, it functioned as a logistics center for a large agricultural and silk farm.

The silkworm was raised on the top floor of the building and the harvest was kept.Tower, lobby and other rooms spread over 426 m2The total area of ??the Falcón Tower is 426.10 square meters, of which 366.80 square meters correspond to the Tower House and 59.30 square meters to the annex where the concierge, warehouse and toilets are located.

Between both volumes is located the 70 square meter patio, as a lobby to receive visitors. The building is a property classified with protection degree 2, whose volume is made up of three heights, notably the arches of openings on the top floor.A unique space to promote culture from EspinardoThis project has been presented to the Young Future Neighbors Association, with which it will work together to define the building's use programs.

In this context, the restored building will open as a new center to promote culture from Espinardo and will host social and cultural activities from a unique environment, which alone shows part of the history of Murcia linked to its Huerta and its traditions. The renovation of the building will give rise to an open space inside, which will be characterized by its flexibility in terms of uses and management, which will allow it to adapt to different functions.Creation of orchards-gardens and reuse of tiles, among other actions of the projectIt is a project that will rehabilitate the building and adapt it to public use.

The conservation works include the repair of the roof to ensure that water does not enter in the event of rain, as well as the re-roofing of the roof, whose tiles and pavements will be reused and placed, taking advantage of the existing tiles in good condition to be placed in the upper most visible areaLikewise, orchards-gardens will be set up in the surroundings of the building, characterized by the centennial pine that forms part of the landscape, with vegetation of citrus and aromatic varieties - peppermint, lavender, thyme, etc.

-.

It is also planned to maintain the existing patio, which will have an annex space that will house the complementary uses of the Tower House.

This annex will be of new construction attached to the existing walls, which will be preserved as far as possible. With the rehabilitation of the property, it is intended to enhance the volume of the Tower House, while being conservative with the initial configuration of the annexed patio, built at the same time as the house.

For its part, the interior space will remain open without interior divisions to accommodate the possibility of different uses.In addition, the supply, electricity and public lighting network will be extended to provide the building with the corresponding municipal services.

The building will be equipped with air conditioning, electricity, water and sanitation facilities, always keeping in mind energy savings and energy efficiency. For the sanitation, a natural purification system by phytodepuration (artificial wetland with aquatic plants) has been planned, totally ecological and without electricity consumption.
