Murcia continues its commitment to energy efficiency in lighting to improve the environment (09/08/2020)

| The City of Murcia improves the lighting of the central streets of the city, Juan de la Cierva and García Alix, betting on energy efficiency and improving quality life of neighbors | The Murcia City Council, through the Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration directed by José Guillén, is carrying out improvements in the lighting of different streets and districts of the municipality of Murcia."These works are framed within the Smart City strategy, in the area of ??Energy Efficiency, to modernize the existing lights.

In this way, it also contributes to improving the economic and environmental efficiency of our municipality", José Guillén highlighted.Specifically, in Juan de la Cierva and García Alix streets, 25 light points are being replaced, which will go from having a total power of 11,000 W to 2,200 W., which means a reduction in installed power of 8,800 W.

The saving in annual energy consumption is 27,280 Kwh and the annual economic saving is 3,800 euros.In this way, 13,500 kg of CO2 are also stopped being emitted into the atmosphere, reducing the environmental impact and the carbon footprint.The luminaires installed in the last year will save 3.4 million euros and avoid the emission of 12 million kilos of CO2The Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration has renovated in the last year more than 5,000 points of light distributed in about 200 locations in Murcia and districts.The City Council has managed to reduce 658,000 W of installed power and avoiding the emission of 1,000,000 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere.

In this way, more than 285,000 euros have been saved in the last year.Thanks to the investment made, during the useful life of these facilities, which is 12 years, 12 million kilos of CO2 will be emitted and 3,420,000 euros will be saved."The Murcia City Council thus assumes its commitment to curbing climate change, improving the environment and the quality of the air we breathe.
