The PSOE warns the PP that it no longer has excuses to improve public transport with funds approved by the central government (07/08/2020)

Councilor Juan Vicente Larrosa gives the population of Lobosillo as an example, without public transport service since March.

It is one of the farthest districts of the city, which "we have left isolated, marginalized, as if it were not part of this municipality" The Socialist Group has been denouncing for years what constitutes one of the main pending subjects of this municipality: public transport, a service provided by three different concessionaires, dependent on two different administrations.

This circumstance, added to the enormous dispersion of Murcia, has the consequences that buses do not connect, there are large areas without service, either because there are no lines or because there are not enough frequencies; various prices and, in many cases, expensive, and very long journeys.

In addition, at peak times it is easy to find saturated lines that leave travelers at stops and on weekends when entire towns do not have a bus. According to councilor Juan Vicente Larrosa, "the only option with guarantees that any user has is to take their own car with the effects that this has on the rest of society of pollution and noise." For all these reasons, the Socialist mayor believes that "we are facing a great opportunity to restructure the lines and improve public transport thanks to the two different funds released by the central government, one is the Covid-19 endowed with 800 million euros and destined to the autonomous communities to alleviate the deficit derived from the pandemic, and another, of 275 million, expandable up to 400, to compensate the losses during the period of confinement and de-escalation ". Larrosa believes that "these funds are a great stimulus to convert the current public transport service into another more efficient, affordable one that connects the entire municipality to guarantee equality between all residents of the municipality, currently discriminated against by reason of place of residence, even though we all pay the same taxes.

" In this sense, he gives as an example the population of Lobosillo, without public transport service since March.

It is one of the most remote districts of the city, which "we have left isolated, marginalized, as if it were not part of this municipality." Likewise, the councilor recalls that in the last plenary session he again presented an initiative related to public transport, specifically, in order to adopt the necessary measures so that at the beginning of the school year there may be a reinforcement of the lines, especially in the sections of entry and exit of educational and university centers, since a multitude of problems are expected, especially due to the limited capacity that will cause many of the students to delay entering the classes due to restrictions and staggering in schedules in both compulsory, post-compulsory and university education. Larrosa warns that "the central government is complying, so we cannot expect anything else than the Autonomous Community and the City Council to do their homework and provide the public transport service that each and every one of Murcia's neighbors deserve" .
