The PSOE criticizes the "contempt of the PP for the abandonment of what would be a great Railway Museum in Murcia" (06/08/2020)

Councilor Enrique Lorca, who has met with members of the Murcian Association of Friends of the Railroad, recalls that in recent years different locations have been proposed and ensures that the most suitable space must be found for unique pieces The Municipal Socialist Group, which has raised and requested on various occasions throughout the previous mandate and the current one, a worthy location for the thousands of pieces related to the railway that are stored in the current facilities of the Carmen station, requests again a headquarters for the Railway Museum, such as the current Emuasa building, now that it has announced its intention to move, as it was proposed in its day. For the socialist councilor Enrique Lorca, "at the end of the day it is that all these valuable pieces are in good condition and exhibited in the best possible conditions because they are worth it." Furthermore, he considers that "the current premises of Emuasa, which was the Murcia-Zaraiche station of the Mula-Caravaca railway, built in the second decade of the 20th century, is an ideal location with good accessibility and quite central. The councilor, who has met with the Murcian Association of Railroad Friends, who has been asking for a museum for a decade, warns that the former councilor Begoña García Retegui presented several initiatives that opened various possibilities for relocation, from the new AVE station , the old Carmen, the one that houses the offices of Emuasa and the Artillery Barracks, since "the ultimate goal is to avoid at all costs that this huge, unique and precious collection is lost".

The cataloging of the pieces, a musealization project and even the signing of a collaboration with the Spanish Railways Foundation have also been requested. Lorca states that "the motions have not been met, and up to four have been approved in recent years, nor have requests for information been answered, and we do not know if the PP government team has made any efforts with Adif to use the current station by the City Council ".

For all this, "it seems to us an unwarranted and long-standing contempt for an important sample of our heritage." The councilor appreciates the interest and effort of the Murcian Association of Railroad Friends because they are its members who "are allowing this municipality to have such a vast collection that it is already part of the heritage of all the neighbors.

If the government team If he had shown half that interest, we would have a museum worth visiting and admiring, and yet we keep going around year after year with false expectations.

" Finally, he points out that the collection, which is made up of incalculable historical books and documents, authentic pieces from the early days of the railway and thousands of items of considerable value, is currently housed in tiny and poorly equipped facilities along the tracks.

"If five or six years ago it was peremptory to have adequate premises, today the urgency is much greater," adds the socialist councilor.
