Murcia will lead the SISTER Project on town twinning (03/08/2020)

| The European Commission has selected the proposal jointly transferred between Murcia and Genoa within the framework of the work plan developed by both cities | The Murcia City Council, through the Department of Urban Agenda and Government, led by the mayor Mercedes Bernabé, is going to lead the SISTER Project on town twinning.The European Commission has selected the proposal transferred jointly between Murcia and Genoa within the framework of the work plan maintained by both capitals since their twinning was sealed.Good work as the main guaranteeCouncilor Mercedes Bernabé, explained that "the good work that we have been developing in the framework of the twinning with the Italian city of Genoa has been estimated by the European Commission when selecting the Murcia City Council to direct, organize, communicate and disseminate all actions that are included in the SISTER Project ".The SISTER Project obeys the English acronym 'Seminars for Integrating Simultaneous Twinning Experiences and Reconsolidation' and in Spanish it can be translated as 'Seminars to Integrate and Strengthen Twinning Experiences'.The main purpose of the plan will be the implementation of a large part of the work plan that Murcia has jointly designed with Genoa in compliance with the existing twinning between the two cities and which was endorsed by the Murcia City Council in the September session of 2019 and by Genoa in the meeting of November of the same year.Experience in participation at national, European and international levelMurcia will be in charge of channeling all the actions that include the implementation of the SISTER Project.

The City Council has a track record in the participation of different networks at national, European and international level that will favor that the lines of this European plan have more scope and dimension.Both the Consistory of Murcia and that of Genoa will promote the participation of associations, groups and citizens in the acts that derive from the signed twinning.285 proposals received and 127 selectedThe Executive Agency for Education, Culture and Audiovisuals has received 285 proposals in this year's European Commission call on town twinning.

Of the total, 127 were selected to receive financing.

In the case of Spain, Murcia is one of the three beneficiaries that has obtained funds.The implementation of the SISTER Project will contribute to promoting the understanding of the elements, values ??and links that are common to Murcia and Genoa.

Furthermore, it will strengthen the alliance between the two cities and enable a common dialogue to be established that will serve as a context for the European Union as a whole.The SISTER Project also aims to create spaces for citizen encounters that enable both cities to face their main challenges looking for common solutions.

It will also promote the creation of forums for reflection on issues such as the tools available to the European Union to adapt to new changes, what are the most appropriate channels of participation to effectively reach citizens and responses to global problems that local entities can offer.
