The City Council joins the Network of Local Entities of the FEMP for the development of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda (30/07/2020)

| The municipal plenary approved by majority the accession of Murcia to this initiative to work on the development of proposals together to other local governments | The Murcia City Council joins the Network of Local Entities of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) for the elaboration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.In this way, the Municipal Plenary today approved by majority the accession of the Consistory to this body, which will work together with other local governments in the implementation of action proposals to face the crisis caused by Covid-19, as well as in the initiation of initiatives to achieve the development of the SDGs at the local level."At the moment we are immersed in the elaboration of the Urban Agenda Murcia 2030, the roadmap of sustainable urban policies for the next 10 years.

Thus, the participation of the municipality in this network represents a further step in the development of spaces dialogue and meeting that promote mutual enrichment for the construction of this strategy at the local level, "explains Mercedes Bernabé.The international agendaThe councilor explains that "the 2030 Agenda for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), approved by the United Nations General Assembly on September 25, 2015, has become humanity's most ambitious international agenda." And it is that, for the first time, a strategy of these dimensions is assumed from a holistic perspective: social, cultural, economic and environmental.The FEMP has been included by the Government in the Plan of Action of Spain for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, as a lever institution in promoting the Agenda, highlighting the leadership role it has been exercising in recent years.Implementation of the SDGs in citiesOn September 21, 2019, within the framework of the celebration of the XII Plenary, the FEMP politically reinforced its leadership and commitment to land the SDGs in cities and territories from bottom to top through the specific Declaration in favor of the 2030 Agenda and of the Sustainable Development Goals.It pledged to strengthen and legitimize the strategic role of local governments in planning, executing, and accountability in the fulfillment of the SDGs, as accelerating agents for the development of the 2030 Agenda in Spain.As a continuation of this commitment, the FEMP Governing Board decided at its meeting on November 26, 2019 to create the Network of Local Entities to develop the SDGs for the 2030 Agenda.Murcia, pilot experience of the Spanish Urban AgendaThe municipality of Murcia, together with the municipalities of A Coruña, Castellón and Alfaro, has been selected by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda to develop the pilot experience in the Action Plan of the Spanish Urban Agenda in order to create a document that represents the roadmap for the transformation of urban spaces towards a more sustainable model.The City Council is already working on the elaboration of this strategy that will serve as an example for other local entities and municipalities to implement their respective action plans.
