Program 13-17 faces the final stretch after attending to more than a hundred vulnerable adolescents divided into 10 work groups (29/07/2020)

| The minors have carried out activities to enhance their skills in organized dynamics in the districts of San Pío X, La Alberca , El Palmar, Espinardo, Javalí Viejo, La Ñora, Barriomar, Puente Tocinos, Beniaján and Alquerías | The Murcia City Council, through the Department of Social and Family Rights, headed by the mayor Pilar Torres, develops Project 13/17, which works with more than a hundred adolescents at risk of social exclusion to enhance their skills.

The activities will end next Friday, the last day of July.This program consists of a socio-educational intervention project that works with vulnerable minors between 13 and 17 years old.

The workshops are being carried out in working groups organized in San Pío X, La Alberca, El Palmar, Espinardo, Javalí Viejo, La Ñora, Barriomar, Puente Tocinos, Beniaján and Alquerías.Municipal advice for the choice of participantsThe company Local Initiatives manages the execution of the program in coordination with the municipal social services.

A social educator from the Department advised on the choice of adolescents participating in the project.The councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres, visited this morning the working group of La Innovadora, where professionals work with minors from San Pío X, Barriomar and the Carmen neighborhood.During the visit, the mayor stated that "the objective is for adolescents to improve their social and community skills.

This project is part of the social plan that we developed in the Government Team and in which the care of minors and groups more vulnerable is an absolute priority.

"The student profile is very diverseThe profile of the participating adolescents is very diverse, since it is a question that varies depending on the area in which they reside and the social, educational and economic situation that their families present.The main objective of the program is to serve as a meeting point for minors where their ideas can come together, empower their citizen capacity and, especially, develop and enhance their skills so that they participate actively in social and community life.Due to the socio-sanitary crisis caused by the expansion of Covid-19, the development of project activities has been in line with all the recommendations transferred by the health authorities to prevent contagion.Small groups and distancing and hygiene measuresIn this way, each work group consists of a maximum of 8 adolescents to guarantee social distancing.

The social educators who teach the sessions are in charge of two groups and are led by a coordinator.

They promote the use of hydroalcoholic gels and instill in children the need for a good hand wash.The activities take place in the mornings between 9.30 and 14.00.

Most of them take place in the cultural centers of the districts and in the premises of associations such as Los Almendros, in the case of La Alberca.All minors participate in the same activities, although they take place in alternate sessions to reduce the number of members in each session.

Awareness, healthy eating, decorating and gardening workshops have been organized.Movies and excursionsEducators have also organized video sessions in which minors have watched movies and shorts that convey social values.

There have also been excursions to the Bahía and El Castellar beaches, in Mazarrón, and to Blanca, to visit the Segura river.The educators carry out a daily evaluation of the adolescents and they will fill in a form in which they can reflect the degree of satisfaction with the treatment received, the activities carried out, the facilities used and the materials used in the work sessions.Likewise, at the conclusion of the project, the program coordinators will write a report that they will send to the families of the participating minors as a conclusion and balance of the work carried out.
