MercaMurcia has donated more than 16 tons of fresh produce to six charities during the pandemic (27/07/2020)

| José Ballesta chairs the Board of Directors of the Food Logistics Distribution Center, in which the marketing results for the first half of the year have been analyzed | The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, chaired the Mercamurcia Board of Directors today, which was held by videoconference and reported on the extraordinary actions that have been carried out in relation to CSR, such as the donation of more 16 tons of fruit, vegetables, meat and non-precedent products to six charities from Murcia for distribution to the families most affected by the crisis, during the State of Alarm.The directors have been informed of the exceptional measures taken in the company since the beginning of the health crisis, given that the food sector was identified as essential, with the priority being to guarantee the supply of food products to the population.Next, the marketing results of the entire Food Logistics Distribution Center during the first half of the year have been analyzed.Thus, the Fruit and Vegetable Market has increased its activity with an accumulated growth of 10.99% in the period.

The Meat Complex and the Fish Market have suffered decreases, aggravated mainly by the negative impact on the restaurant sector and the tourism sector in general.

The Flower Market, with a decrease of more than 32% in the volume of stems traded, has also been very affected mainly due to the coincidence with spring festivities and celebrations typical of the period.Photovoltaic solar plantIn another order of business, it should be noted that, in the Contracting chapter, this Council has approved the Contract Specifications for Gas and Electricity Supplies, Improvement in Water Treatment and the Installation of Lighting with LED Technology in the interior lighting of the Meat Complex, as an action within Mercamurcia's Energy Efficiency Plan and with the dual objective of improving the environment and being more efficient.It has also been reported the project started to shortly tender the installation of a Photovoltaic Solar Plant that will mean an increase in the production capacity of this type of renewable energy, reaching a total of 83.90% of the consumption of the entire company.
