Murcia recognizes on Grandparents Day the dedication of a lifetime (24/07/2020)

José Ballesta: "Our elders, who have been hardest hit by this terrible health crisis, are an ethical support in our lives.

Recognizing them is an act of justice, since we have a moral obligation to return to them everything they have given us"The City Council today paid tribute to Murcian grandparents and grandmothers, in an institutional act held in the Plenary Hall, which was chaired by the Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the Councilor for the Elderly, Disability and Development Cooperation, Paqui Pérez.

The event, which commemorates Grandfather's Day 2020, which is celebrated this Sunday, July 26, was also attended by the president of the Federation of Social Centers for the Elderly, Simón Párraga, and members of the municipal Corporation."Our elders, our grandparents and parents, who are the ones who have been hit hardest by this terrible health crisis, are part of that generation of admirable Spaniards who have served as a moral reference, an ethical support in our lives," said the mayor.“That admirable generation of Spaniards who took a backward, isolated nation; a nation practically destroyed and that over the past 50 years has risen to the height of the world's greatest powers.

All of this has been the collective effort of a generation of Spaniards ”, he added.“Both in Murcia and in the whole of our country we have a moral obligation to return everything they have given us; it is an act of justice towards those who preceded us, who have been a model of values ??and principles ”, concluded José Ballesta.Paqui Pérez: "Thank you for a life of delivery and service"For her part, the Senior Manager dedicated a few words of thanks to all the elderly for a lifetime of dedication and service to others.
