The repopulation of the riverside forest will reduce episodes of erosion in the Segura river bed (17/07/2020)

| The Governing Board approves an expenditure of 15,000 euros in favor of ANSE for the environmental recovery of the existing river corridor between Murcia and La Contraparada | The Governing Board has given the go-ahead, at its meeting today, to the authorization of an expense, worth 15,000 euros, in favor of the Southeast Naturalist Association (ANSE).

The proposal has been transferred by the Department of Sustainable Development and Huerta, which is headed by mayor Antonio Navarro.The amount will be used to carry out the activities foreseen in the collaboration agreement for this year between the Murcia City Council and ANSE to advance the actions for the environmental recovery of the peri-urban river corridor existing between Murcia and La Contraparada.The main objective of the agreement is the repopulation of the riverside forest that is typical of the environment of the Segura river bed.

This action will reduce erosion episodes, which will improve the quality of the natural environment.Better level of purification and less levels of carbon dioxideIt will also bring other benefits, such as improving the level of purification in the channel and lowering the levels of carbon dioxide in the water.

Tree planting will also serve to conserve the native biodiversity of the Segura river environment.Reduce the temperature of the river waterSimilarly, the planned actions will protect the natural space, reduce the temperature of the river waters and contribute to the maintenance of specimens that form pollinator populations that favor the conservation of biodiversity.ANSE will promote the conservation of the ecological diversity found in the environment of La Contraparada.

This project is part of the environmental plan that the Government Team has been developing for the past few years with the aim of improving the environment and reducing pollution levels.The financing approved today is part of the new agreement that the Government Team has signed with ANSE and that will allow expanding the activities that will achieve progress both in conservation and in the degree of knowledge of the biodiversity that is present in the environment of the river .Joint work since 2014This agreement represents a further step in the joint work that the Murcian Consistory and ANSE have been developing since 2014 to recover the riverside ecosystem on the Segura river.This collaboration framework has already allowed the execution of actions on a surface of 10 hectares in the surroundings of the channel that connects Murcia with La Contraparada.

These actions seek to advance in the promotion of sustainable development and in the improvement of the environment.ANSE has as its main objectives the defense of the environment and the conservation of nature and ecological processes.

The City Council will coordinate all the plans that favor environmental recovery in the surroundings of La Contraparada.
