Rotary Club Murcia Norte donates 23,000 kilos of potatoes to the Food Bank (03/07/2020)

| Food will serve to meet the needs of vulnerable families who have suffered the consequences of the social health crisis caused by the expansion of Covid-19 | Rotary Club Murcia Norte has donated 23,000 kilos of potatoes to the Segura Food Bank.

The destination of the food will be vulnerable families that are suffering the effects caused by the socio-sanitary crisis generated by the expansion of Covid-19.The initiative is part of the project entitled 'Agro-Rex' which has been launched by the Humanitarian Foundation of Spanish Rotarians.

The Murcia City Council, through the Department of Social and Family Rights, which is headed by the mayor Pilar Torres, has coordinated the delivery of food, from the Sevillian company Patatas Arrebola.Potato donations like this have also been made in other Spanish cities, such as Madrid.The mayor Torres has thanked "the constant displays of solidarity that citizens and entities are having to help those most in need since the beginning of the pandemic.

The care of the most vulnerable is a priority for the Government Team.

We will always be available to everyone who wants to help.

"Altruistic transferThe transport of potatoes from Seville to Murcia has been carried out in an absolutely altruistic way by the Murcian firm Carmen Natural Transport.

This donation was the first act of Francisco Sandoval as president of the Rotary Club Murcia Norte.

He assumed the position on July 1 in the hands of Ángel Sánchez.The City Council works in coordination to ensure that all products reach those who need it most.

Other donations made previously were the 580 kilos of staple food that Terra Natura made to the Food Bank and the 30 tons that the Association of Supermarkets of the Region of Murcia contributed to this same entity.Another example was the 200 kilos filleted pork and veal that Mercamurcia donated to the Puente Tocinos Solidarity Pot.Collaboration with Cáritas, the Red Cross and the Food BankTo contribute to the social work being carried out by member organizations, the Department of Social Rights approved an extraordinary grant worth 750,000 euros for Cáritas Diocesana, the Red Cross and the Food Bank.Coordination with third sector entities has allowed the City Council to design a territorial map to guarantee access to basic food for people at risk of exclusion.Food delivery serviceThe food delivery service has been extended to cover the entire territory of the municipality.

It currently serves 2,016 people belonging to 686 families.

1,563 are adults and 619 are minors.
