The City Council decides to extend and expand the dining room scholarships to more than 3,000 schoolchildren throughout the summer (01/07/2020)

| In addition to giving continuity to these grants during July and August, the City Council extends this social benefit to minors in vulnerable situations that are proposed by the social educators | The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with the councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres, and the councilor for the Elderly, Disability, Development Cooperation and Housing, Paqui Pérez, chaired this morning the constituent session of the Municipal Council of Services Social, an organism of plural participation and of an advisory nature, which has representatives of the various institutions, entities and associations of the third sector, to face the post-alarm social crisis generated by COVID-19.José Ballesta revealed that “throughout the 100 days that the state of alarm has lasted, the Social Services have received 30,000 calls, representing 75% of the total calls that were registered in 2019 and they have attended a total of 70,000 people with aid that has exceeded three million euros ”.Likewise, the Mayor of Murcia reported that "urgently, we are going to extend the aid for the dining room scholarships beyond the school year that has just ended, so that, throughout the entire summer, the City Council will maintain this aid , which will reach more than 3,000 schoolchildren ”.Currently, there are 3,010 minors for whom the dining room scholarship is already being managed, which had to be implemented through the formula of the wallet card, after the outbreak of the pandemic and the cessation of activity in educational centers.In addition to giving continuity to the dining room scholarships during July and August, the City Council will assign this social benefit to minors who currently do not receive it, but who are in a vulnerable situation, at the proposal of the social educators of the Municipal Centers of Social Services.Social Services CouncilIn addition to this measure, in the first session of the new Social Services Council various actions of a social nature were analyzed and proposed, together with the professionals of the Social Services of the City Council.This advisory body has around twenty members, among which are the representatives of the following entities: EAPN-RM (Network to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion in the Region of Murcia), Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI), Murcia Region Volunteer Platform, Fundación Secretariado Gitano, Unicef-Murcia Committee, the Federation of Migrants, Federation of Women's Centers of the municipality of Murcia.Psychologists, workers and social educatorsLikewise, the Social Services Council will be made up of members of the following professional associations: Social Work, Social Educators, Psychologists and Lawyers of Murcia.On the other hand, institutions such as the University of Murcia, the Planning Service of the Community Ministry, the Murcian Institute of Social Action (IMAS) will also participate in the sessions of this body.On behalf of the municipal area of ??Social Services, the area director will attend, as well as the heads of Social Welfare and Welfare Administration.

Each of the political groups of the City Council (PP, PSOE, C's, Podemos Equo and Vox) will also have representation in said body.The Council has, among other functions, promoting coordination and cooperation between the representative entities of the different population sectors, promoting the participation of activities aimed at their social, cultural, personal and labor promotion through participation bodies and sectoral representations.Equipments of the City Council social networkThe municipal staff of Social Services carries out its work in the different facilities that make up the social network of the Murcia City Council:· 3 Municipal Social Services Centers.· 40 Social Work Units.· 3 Community Action Centers.· 3 Cyber ??rooms.· 1 Comprehensive center for childhood and work-life balance.· 3 Day Stay Centers.· 76 Senior Social Centers.· 76 Women's Centers.· 4 reception resources for women in situations of gender violence.
