The City Council acquires the last parcel of land to complete the surface of the park to be built in the current dissuasive car park at El Malecón (18/06/2020)

The Commission for Urban Planning, Sustainable Development and Huerta approved this morning the obtaining of the last land pending acquisition for the creation of a new urban park, of about 27,000 square meters, on the grounds of the current deterrent parking lot in El MalecónThe Commission for Urban Planning, Sustainable Development and Huerta, which is headed by Councilor Antonio Navarro, has approved at its meeting this morning the acquisition of the land that will complete the new green area to be built in the current dissuasive car park at El Malecón.Specifically, the land to be acquired is located between the bed of the Segura river, the A-30 motorway and the Paseo del Malecón and covers 6,500 square meters.

The planned investment is 460,000 euros. The dissuasive car park next to the Malecon has the capacity to house a thousand cars, a figure that justifies the need for its maintenance and compatibility with the free space that will be located above it.Vegetation from the parking levelThe project includes the construction of an urban park that is currently in the design phase and will incorporate wooded areas on the surface, as well as in the perimeter spaces of the current car park, which have been carried out in connection with the 'Murcia Río' River Walk.

The intention is that the vegetation sprouts from the level of the parking lot and creates a superior surface in which large children's games can be implanted.A row of wooded flower beds will create a landscape barrier that will allow the connection of the Malecon, the A-30 motorway and the river bed in a natural space in which the vegetation will be the main protagonist. One of the actions that is in the study phase is the construction of an underground car park in a part of the plot that will free up the surface of the current deterrent car park as a pedestrian, recreational and citizen activities area.

The intention is that this area can host temporary activities of a festive nature.Decongestion for the Botanical GardenThis decision seeks to reduce the number of events of this type currently hosted by the Botanical Garden of the Malecon.

The new green space will be integrated with the existing walks along the Segura river and will connect with the cultural center of the Artillery Barracks, reinforcing in the center the connection of both banks of the river. The project includes the landscaping of the spaces under the A-30 motorway and the area of ??the deterrent car park until its progressive complete recovery as free space.

The technical proposal is already prepared. The execution of this park will offer a connection between the Malecon and the river with the vegetation as the protagonist.

The city will gain a new green area in front of the Paseo del Malecón and the Botanical Garden that will give continuity to other gardens already built in the execution of the first phase of 'Murcia Río', such as Alameda and Cuatro Piedras.Extension of the River WalkThis new park will be a continuation of the 'Murcia Río' River Walk and will extend the naturalized concept garden that was built at the entrance to the El Malecón dissuasive car park. The first phase of 'Murcia Río' involved the planting of 30,000 species between trees and plants and the provision of 4.5 kilometers of trails to Murcia.

In the second phase of the project, it will incorporate actions in fourteen districts along the 27 kilometers through which the Segura water circulates within the municipality of Murcia.
