The group sent a letter to the political organization inviting them to "hold a meeting at their facilities to address their management model with complete transparency." The local and regional directorates of IU-Verdes will not attend the "invitation" of the Orenes Group to hold a meeting to "address their management model", and have supported the statements contained in the article "The hidden face of Odysseus" signed by Miguel Ángel Pagan, member of the IU Economy and Work group in the municipality of Murcia, reason for the letter received by IU-Verdes with said invitation. The article analyzes the consequences and the social and economic effects, sufficiently contrasted, of the game and in which the author expresses the wish that the vertiginous rise of this activity in our region, culminated with the opening of the "Odysseus" casino, a few months, does not mean the extension of these consequences in a region that already suffers from an increase in pathological gambling and negative consequences of gambling in a very important way. From IU-Verdes we consider that, although gambling is an allowed activity in our society, it is no less true that it also generates important public health problems due to the addictions it develops, in addition to serious social and family problems, economic and coexistence. From IU-Greens we do not share at all the policies favoring the development of gambling in our region promoted by the PP governments, with totally permissive regulations for the installation of gambling halls, betting and gaming machines, ignoring recommendations made by the Council Economic and Social of the Region of Murcia in 2013, to restrict opening permits by distancing the facilities from each other and from the educational centers. Likewise, IU-Verdes denounces the favorable tax treatment given to gaming companies in our region with millionaire discounts on taxes and fees levied on this activity, policies maintained to promote the rapid growth of these companies and the sector, culminating with the opening of the Odysseus casino. At IU-Verdes we advocate a strict regulation of game advertising that limits and reduces this totally unjustified expansion.
