Interviews with presidents of Municipal Boards begin to advance in the study of urban transport reorganization (15/06/2020)

| The data obtained in this study, together with the planned field work, will allow establishing the mobility patterns of the city of Murcia, both for internal level as with other municipalities in the Region of Murcia | This morning the personal interviews to the presidents of the Municipal Boards have begun in order to advance in the elaboration of the Technical Assistance Service related to the realization of the management model of the urban lines of municipal transport of the Murcia City Council, which will allow create the new Murcia 2030 Mobility Plan.What is intended with these interviews is to collect the mobility needs of the inhabitants of the different districts and neighborhoods of the municipality of Murcia.The information obtained in this study, together with the planned field work, will allow establishing the mobility patterns of the city of Murcia, both internally and with other municipalities in the Region of Murcia.This information will be used to know as accurately as possible the origin and destination of movements between areas and, in this way, to be able to infer the city's real transport needs."The ultimate purpose of this information is to use it as the basis on which to design a structured, coherent, optimized public transport network that meets the needs of the population under the criteria of quality and safety," said the councilor for Sustainable Mobility.

and Youth, Rebeca Pérez.The objective is that the public transport system in Murcia, made up of the tram and bus lines, works in a coordinated way and satisfies the mobility needs of Murcians, in addition to guaranteeing economic and environmental efficiency.These interviews with the presidents of the Municipal Boards will take place during this week and in them they will have to indicate, among other issues, the points or areas of their Municipal Board that currently do not have urban transport service and that it is considered necessary to incorporate into the network, or the necessary increments of expeditions, additional to the current ones.Analysis of 1,580 stops and 40 linesThe 'Study of reorganization of urban transport in the city of Murcia' will involve the preparation of the document that will include the technical service project that will serve as the basis for the future tender for urban and metropolitan public transport in the municipality of Murcia.Specifically, technical assistance has begun to analyze the 1,580 stops and 40 lines that make up the network of the public transport network in the municipality of Murcia, with a total of 584,000 expeditions between urban, intercity and tram buses.Likewise, on March 11 a meeting was held with representatives of the Municipal Boards to agree on a schedule and resolve doubts about the content of the interviews.

Due to the state of alarm, the interviews have been postponed until now.In addition, on March 10, field work began with the start of the 5,500 surveys of Murcia.

These works had to be suspended because the closure of educational centers due to the health crisis of COVID-19 caused a clear distortion of the results obtained from the survey.

Until the time of the suspension, 15% of the total of the 5,500 scheduled surveys had been carried out.
