Murcia City Council will open next Monday the markets of Puente Tocinos and Sangonera la Verde (11/06/2020)

Specifically, on Monday, June 15, the Puente Tocinos market will return to activity and on Saturday, June 20, the stalls of the Sangonera la Verde market will be installed again.A technical committee made up of the Markets, Police, Fire, Civil Protection, Personal and Traffic and Transport services will define the spaces and the capacity to guarantee safety and prevent infections and will favor the installation of the largest number of positions possible.The two large markets in the city of Murcia, the Fame and the Santa María de Gracia markets, will resume activity before the end of June.

The technicians will decide on the measures to be adopted to guarantee the opening of these two large markets, making it possible to install as many positions as possible and ensure safety and health measures.Change of location in El PalmarAs for the El Palmar market, the Municipal Board has requested a change of location, an issue that the City Council wants to agree with the vendors to agree on the new location of the market.All markets will present new peculiarities derived from the socio-sanitary crisis caused by the expansion of Covid-19.

The technical committee will determine the measures to be adopted in this regard, focused on expanding the maximum number of positions possible and with the greatest safety and health measures.The City Council recalls that the other 46 markets that are installed in the districts have been operating for weeks, with all the security and distancing measures, the City Council is finalizing the return to activity in stages of the five major markets in the municipality.The technical team will analyze the existing spaces in each market and interpret in a finalized and individualized manner the safety and health measures that are most pertinent to adopt, always seeking to install the largest number of food stands and other sectors, such as textiles.Coordination of Markets, Citizen and Personal SecurityThe coordination of the teams of the departments of Markets, Citizen Security and Personal has enabled the commission to start, which will decide on market access and decide on the perimeter dimension.The technical committee will carry out periodic reviews to test first-hand the operation of the markets after their reopening and to ensure that the necessary measures are updated to achieve maximum operation in the shortest possible time.The entire process that the City Council is articulating, through the unison coordination of all the services involved, seeks to ensure the safety of sellers and customers.

For this reason, it has opted for a progressive and consolidated opening of the five major markets of the municipality after the return to activity of the remaining 46.Investment of more than 500,000 eurosWith the aim of accelerating the economic reactivation of the sector, the City Council, thanks to the coordination of the Mayor's Office with the Market Service and the rest of the councils involved, has redoubled the means and efforts, with an investment of more means and resources of 500,000 euros.Strengthening of the Market staff with 14 workersThe Department of Personnel has supported the Market Service with the incorporation of 14 workers.

Likewise, the markets will have more police patrols so that the agents regulate the installation, the accesses and the gauging.The Government Team is fully aware that the market sector guarantees economic sustenance for many families in the municipality, while providing citizens with a public service that will resume from next Monday.The City Council has multiplied its efforts to shorten times and that markets such as the Fame, in which more than 600 stalls are installed and represents an icon for the city, can return to activity in the coming days.
