The PSOE requires Ballesta to neither discriminate nor abandon the 3,600 families who depend on street vendors in the face of the Covid-19 crisis (11/06/2020)

| Socialist councilor Juan Vicente Larrosa explains that "we are in phase 3 of de-escalation but the City Council maintains the restrictions of phase 0, which is causing many families to be in need and drawing on Caritas "| Street vendors have been complaining about their situation for weeks.

Despite being already in phase 3 of the de-escalation, in the municipality "we continue as if we were in phase 0 with the damages for the economy of this sector that continues to suffer the ravages of the closing of markets, not being able to go to their jobs work and waiting for the Murcia City Council to react ".

"They demand that Ballesta allow them to return to the markets 100%, without discriminating between food or textile stalls," explains Juan Vicente Larrosa, a socialist councilor, who recalls that "we are talking about a large group made up of 3,600 families who live on this sector". "During phase 2, only 25% of fruit and vegetable vendors have been able to go to their stall, and those of textiles and footwear only 8%.

That is why they ask for equality and that they allow everyone to settle," explains the mayor.

Another problem they face is that not all markets are open.

"The ones with the largest dimensions and the highest sales, such as the one in La Fama, the one in the Barrio de Santa María de Gracia or the ones in big districts like El Palmar or Puente Tocinos, are not opening yet," Larrosa complains. "Not to mention the lack of organization.

There are merchants who are called three times a week to go to their jobs, while others are not called once.

This leads to general unrest even among the merchants themselves.

We do not know what criteria are being followed for this selection, but it is clear to us that the organization is conspicuous by its absence, "protests the councilor, who shows his exasperation that many families are experiencing needs and even going to Cáritas. "The City Council cannot continue with its arms crossed before this perverse reality.

They are a vulnerable group, they are families that are not having an income and that do not feel any type of support or guarantee from their closest administration.

It seems that Ballesta does not understand which are their functions, or the damage that this creates in the lives of people who suffer it, "denounces Larrosa, who warns that in conversations with vendors they have confessed that" they feel victims of unfair competition with respect to supermarkets and centers commercial, which have functioned with some normality throughout the pandemic, since in the markets they do not allow self-service and make shopping more uncomfortable.

" "The street vendors do not understand it and neither do we" and points out more: "as they do not understand the transfers of the stalls from their original place.

The clients are used to finding them in a specific place and to all the problems they already have, they add to them these movements, which do not benefit them at all.

" "There are many things that the Murcia City Council could do for these citizens without activity, the most reasonable thing would be to suspend all taxes during this year, promote awareness campaigns and, as is being done with small businesses, we must promote consumption in the markets and make citizens lose their fear and see them as safe spaces, which is what they are, since they are outdoors, "says Juan Vicente Larrosa. "We hope that Ballesta reacts soon to the demands of this sector.

They need it as much as any other, if not more.

It is urgent and must be treated with the priority it requires," says Larrosa, because "as the sellers themselves say, they are not trade.

second.
