Murcia will have 21 kilometers of bicycles (10/06/2020)

| The Municipal Bicycle Observatory, which met this afternoon, has studied the project that is made up of 14 new bicycle roads | The councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, chaired this afternoon the meeting of the Municipal Observatory of Bicycle, which was also attended by the councilor for Sustainable Development and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, and representatives of Bicimur, Bicihuerta, Murcia in Bici, UMU en Bici, from the Official College of Political Sciences and Sociologies, from the Local Police, from the Local Youth Council, from the General Directorate of Traffic, from the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of the Municipality of Murcia, from the Cycling Federation of the Region, universities, municipal political groups and MUyBICI.Rebeca Pérez explained that "the bicycle is a means of transport in our new mobility model in which we are committed to individual mobility and collective transport.

Our measures will allow the reduction of polluting emissions to the atmosphere, sustainable logistics within the city, maintain sustainable development and facilitate mobility for citizens.

"The councilor added that "we want Murcia to join sustainable mobility by parking polluting vehicles, a proposal aligned with the municipal strategy for mitigating climate change, which seeks to reduce CO2 emissions by one million tons in 2030 We also seek territorial cohesion and structuring "One of the main topics discussed has been the project for the construction of provisional bicycles, which is part of the crash plan to continue promoting sustainable, healthy and safe mobility through the use of bicycles after the coronavirus pandemic. Thanks to this plan, 21,501 meters of bicycle lanes will be enabled with connections to districts adjacent to the city of Murcia, with an investment of 449,672 euros. All of them will be built on a motor vehicle circulation lane, either a road circulation lane or an area occupied by online or battery parking, with the following alternatives:Moving the parking area towards a motorized lane, but maintaining the width, which will be about 3 meters, this width will vary in some sections since the current lanes have a variable width.Building the bike lane on a motorized lane without having to move parking lots, either because they do not exist or because it is compatible with the lane itself.Given the existence of a single lane of traffic for each direction of traffic, the implementation of a cycle path that allows the use by part of bicycles and motor vehicles. Thus, the solution of tracing the bicycle routes through the area currently occupied by parking lots will be chosen, when there are a large number of right turns and these may interfere with the right turns of motorized vehicles.

This situation is the one that will be executed for Pintor Almela Costa Streets, Pio Baroja Avenue, San Juan de la Cruz Avenue and Mozart Street. All lanes will be unidirectional in order to meet the required social distance, they will be built at ground level of the road and completely segregated from it and the sidewalks. The totality of the bike path sections provided for in the general project are as follows:LOT Nº1.Total length 4,410.00 metersLength 2,360.00.
