The Murcia City Council guarantees the supply of basic food to 358 people living in 12 settlements (02/06/2020)

Guaranteeing the arrival of basic food to all citizens who require it is one of the lines in which the Department of Social Rights and Family works.The outbreak of the socio-sanitary crisis caused by the expansion of Covid-19 has forced the Government Team to design a series of measures that contribute to alleviating the effects of the pandemic on the most vulnerable groups.Food distribution is one of the main lines of action.

The Mobile Emergency and Social Care Service (SEMAS) guarantees the supply of basic food to 358 people living in a dozen settlements in the Murcian municipality.249 adults and 109 minors249 adults and 109 minors live in the settlements served by the Department of Social Rights.

In Patiño there are two settlements.

The same happens in Algezares and Zarandona.

In San Pío X there are three and in Puente Tocinos, Javalí Nuevo and Rincón de Seca, one.The Murcia City Council serves the neediest families by organizing aid and donations made by individuals and entities such as the Food Bank, Cáritas Diocesana, Red Cross and Jesús AbandonadoThe councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres, stresses that "the care of the most vulnerable is a priority for this Government Team.

The Council is available to all companies and entities that contribute with their solidarity to supply families who need support.

They have all our services at their disposal to get food to those who need it most.

"The detachment that is in charge of attending the settlements is made up of 4 social workers and 3 local police officers who are assigned to SEMAS.

They work in 3 teams and also collaborate with Civil Protection volunteers.Psychosocial supportThe care provided by SEMAS covers all the essential needs of the inhabitants of the settlements.

The technicians maintain fluid contact to cover all basic needs.

A vital work that is organized from the Department is psychosocial support.Every week SEMAS workers visit the settlements to contact the people who inhabit them and maintain an updated knowledge of the social reality that exists in those places.

They also identify the appearance of new family units to offer them support from the first moment.Apart from basic foods, the City Council provides drinking water, diapers and cleaning and personal hygiene products.

The attention provided by SEMAS is constant.

Each week it offers assistance to 133 people living in the settlements.Drinking water point in Patiño and AlgezaresThe care of its inhabitants is a crosscutting issue in which the entire Government Team is involved.

With the declaration of the state of alarm, Aguas de Murcia and the Department of Sports and Health set up a point to supply drinking water in the settlements in Patiño and Algezares.

The measure benefited 164 people, of whom 53 are minors.Donation of 1,001 diapersOne of the last donations that the Department of Social Rights has managed has been the delivery of 1,001 diapers made by Farmacia Francisco Ruano.

This is one of the many expressions of solidarity that have emerged in recent weeks.The SEMAS workers will distribute the diapers between the settlements that are in the districts of Patiño and Rincón de Seca because they are the places where the technicians have verified that there are more young children living.
