Murcia City Council allocates 82,000 euros to aid to promote energy efficiency and sustainable mobility (29/05/2020)

The Governing Board supports the final approval of the subsidies that have allowed the acquisition of 36 electric vehicles, the installation of recharging points in 11 public car parks and the financing of a motorcycle rental systemThe Governing Board has endorsed the final approval of the subsidies aimed at promoting sustainable mobility and energy efficiency in the municipality of Murcia corresponding to the 2019 call for a value of 82,000 euros.The Department of Sustainable Development and Huerta, through the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change (ALEM), has selected the beneficiaries of the aid, which are 30 from Murcia and 18 companies.The grants awarded have allowed the acquisition of 34 electric bicycles and 2 'green' motorcycles, as well as the installation of recharging points in 11 public car parks and the financing of an electric motorcycle rental system.The 2020 call will allow Murcians to receive aid for different concepts, such as the acquisition of electric bicycles, the installation of charging points for electric vehicles in communities of owners and the installation of photovoltaic panels for self-consumption for residential use.The Councilor for Sustainable Development, Antonio Navarro, explained that "in the Government Team we have a project to promote sustainable mobility and energy efficiency.

Our objective is to contribute to the improvement of the environment by reducing the emission of polluting gases to the atmosphere and in this context we have approved these grants.

"The aid approved today will allow various parking garages in the city to have charging points for electric vehicles.

This will be the case of the Avenida de la Libertad parking, the Reina Sofía Hospital, the La Vega Hospital, the Morales Meseguer Hospital, the one located in Plaza Europa, the San Andrés parking lot and those in Centrofama, Simón García street, Marqués de los Vélez avenue and Acisclo Díaz street.Local Electric Vehicle StrategyThese subsidies are part of the Local Electric Vehicle Strategy, which includes fifty actions to reduce polluting emissions in the Murcian municipality.

This plan received the Renault Award for Best Practice in Sustainable and Accessible Mobility, in the Public Administration category.The Department of Sustainable Development also signed an agreement with the Murcia Parking Association that has enabled 13 car parks to offer one hour of free parking to electric vehicles.

3,000 places are offered with this initiative.The participating car parks are Glorieta, Verónicas, Saavedra Fajardo, San Andrés, Vibelsa, Centrofama, Universidad, Santoña, Campillo, Libertad, Excelsior, La Vega and Alfonso X.Free network of charging pointsAnother measure that has been carried out has been the creation of a network of free charging points.

They are located at the Glorieta, Ronda Sur, Plaza Circular, Calle Jaime I and Avenida Río Segura.

The use of electric recharging in neighboring communities has also been promoted by the City Council.
