The European Commission chooses Murcia to lead the roadmap for culture in Europe until the 2030 horizon (29/05/2020)

| Murcia leads the international working group of Creative and Cultural Sectors of the Urban Agenda 2030, together with the EC | The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, intervened today as leader of the working group of Creative and Cultural Sectors of the Urban Agenda 2030 for Culture, a project that Murcia co-directs together with the European Commission and in which different ministries and cities of Poland, Portugal, Latvia, Bulgaria, Hungary, France, Germany, Slovenia and Spain, as well as organizations such as Eurocities and the Committee of the Regions.The Cultural Model of Murcia, focused on young talent, support for the creation and opening of the sector to society with new spaces and shows for all, has been chosen by the European Commission as a benchmark and the capital of the Region will be the European city in charge of establishing the roadmap for culture on the continent between now and 2030, coordinating the actions of other European cities and ministries, together with the European Commission.In his speech in English, the mayor stated that “culture is the life force of a vibrant society, articulated through the ways in which we tell our stories, express ourselves, live and love, it is our identity, how we coexist in harmony and how we imagine the future.

Culture is what unites us and brings us together ”.Today's meeting has meant the constitution of this international working group, which will hold new meetings (telematic or face-to-face, depending on the evolution of the health crisis) in the coming months.

These actions are those that make up the new Cultural Model of Murcia: the project of cultural reagents, cultural atomization or cultural routes, among others.International support for the Murcia projectThe appointment of Murcia has been endorsed by those responsible for the Ministry of the Interior of Germany and the National Government Agency for Territorial Cohesion and the Ministry of Culture, Heritage and Tourism of Italy, appointed for the elaboration of the European Cultural Agenda 2030, after the approval of the European Commission and the current European Presidency.Murcia has already been selected as a national benchmark for the development of its City Strategy through the Urban Agenda 2030, the strategic planning instrument aimed at prioritizing the sustainable development of cities in the next decade.The role of MurciaMurcia's role as co-leader will be the coordination and selection of pilot actions presented by the group's group members in order to be integrated into the Action Plan of the New Urban Cultural Agenda 2030.This plan will contain concrete actions aimed at better regulation, better financing and better knowledge of the field of culture and cultural heritage of the EU.

These proposals will be understood as contributions to the design and review of all legislation, financing instruments and existing initiatives in this field.The group is made up of entities such as the European Commission, the Committee of the Regions, Eurocities, the European Investment Bank (EIB), as well as various ministries and cities in Poland, Portugal, Latvia, Bulgaria, Hungary, France, Germany, Slovenia and Spain, among others.Along with the creative and cultural sectors working group led by Murcia, within the framework of the New European Cultural Urban Agenda, are the following groups: Cultural tourism, Transformation and reconversion of public spaces, Resilience of cultural and natural heritage and Cultural services and culture for inclusive cities.

In addition, there are two cross-cutting working groups: Financial Sustainability and Funding and Interdisciplinary and Integrated Approaches to Governance.
